Maybe this guy isn't really what you need for a long term relationship?
No, I'm not suggesting you try to go back to the old bf. That is usually a bad idea.
I am suggesting that you don't HAVE TO BE in a relationship. It is okay and in fact a good idea to call it a day when it no longer suits your happiness.
So...nicely kick this one to the curb. Take a break and begin to scope out the horizon for the next lucky dude in your life.

u've got to break all the strongholds that had bonded u to him. if not u cant move on in the other realtionship. give to ur ex what was his that u have n n release him. n he should do u the same. u both have to release each other. don't be rebellious.ifeelings are real, but they are most often not true.it's so wrong to be thinking of another when u're someone supposedly genuinle in ur relationship. when u think of him share the thought with ur present mate, have him know he will help u overcome the state of delusion n repressed emotion.

Are you thinking about him in such a way, that you miss him? Do you want to be with him, again? If so, you shouldn't be with the other guy. Be a real woman. A real woman doesn't act like a male. She doesn't stay with someone and leave them ONLY when someone else is lined up, waiting in the wings. That's what insecure, insincere people do...that's what MEN do. If you want to be with someone else, it is very simple. Politely break up with your present bf and let the other one you like him. Even if he doesn't want to get back with you, why in the world would you want to be with your present bf while thinking of another guy????? Life ain't that long, sister. Be a woman.

Here's what i'll do if i were in your shoes
1)Explain how i feel to my present girl friend and nicely break up with her.
2)call up my ex and tell her i can't get her out of my mind and see what she has to say.
3)start facing the consequences of my actions...we're talking about 3 scenarios here:
1-me and my ex we get back together (happy ending)
2-my ex tells me to forget it ,leaving me with a broken heart
and bleeding ego(worst case scenario)
3-after being turned down from my ex. and breaking up with
my present girl friend ,i become single again ,free again
(which is the best case scenario as i won't be missing more
time with someone i don't love enough or someone who
doesn't love me enough .
Good luck and all the best
cheers :)

If you love your curent man - just let it be and it will go away...if not - you need to be on your own for sometime or it is unfair to you and the guy you are with. Take a little time away to get over it - you will find it helps put a lot of things in perspective.

it means that you are not ready for a new relationship yet .you have to let go of those memories. Then when you feel free, you can love again.
