Navy. My grand father was in the marines then got out because he did not like it and went to the navy. He loved it so much he retired from the Navy.

The Marine Corps, mentally and physically the Marines. The leadership skills learned will be a huge asset. The Marines DO have firefighters asssigned to their aviation bases. Marine firefighters are trained by the Air Force. Think long and hard before making any decision. All branches of the service have allot to offer. The Marine Corps is by far the the most demanding. Have you considered the Coast Guard? They don't recruit hard like the other services, and are often overlooked. Don't forget a college degree will be your ticket to promotions within the fire department. Good luck in whatever you do. Semper Fi

If you want to be a 'traditional" FF.. then actually the Air Force has the closest equivalent training. Navy uses civilians as their land based Fire Fighting team. DC, or Damage Controlman, is the rating for the closest thing , but they deal with far far MORE than just putting out fires. Underway, EVERYONE fights fires, but DCs also deal with hull breaches and other structual damage.

Now, if you want to go EMT.. then consider being an HM (Hospital Corpsman) in the Navy with an eye for going Fleet Marine Force. FMF(especially males) are in the trenches with Marines and carry around the same equipment the Jarheads do in addition to their medical equipment. HMs receive extensive training that translates fairly well into civilian Emergency Response medicine.

Either way, keep in mind that Military training will quite often be vastly different than Civilian training, and you'd still have to attend the required training of whoever hires you.

The Navy has and excellent firefighter training program. Since most fire departments are operating EMS services you might want to consider a paramedical career path (more jobs better pay).

If you want a career as a FF, then yeah, Navy is the way to go. I am a Marine (ret.). Much better career path for your chosen profession. Oh, by the way. I am a 20+ yr FF / Paramedic. If you were to join the Corps (not everyone who trys gets in, by the way) you will leave in much better physical shape than the Navy.

Navy or Coast Guard.

DO NOT join the Army or Marines... especially right now. That's a one way ticket to the grave. Look at the casaulty list for yourself.

I think that is up to you. You should get info on both and set down and decide on what you want to do. Both have websites. Both have there ups and downs. My husband is in the navy because of the job contract. Start talking to recruiters. Ask your self do you want to be a sailor and go out to sea. Or a Marine who are the toughest soldiers. Look at both there jobs and there contracts. Before you really do decide. Do what you want and not what everybody else wants.

Navy. Firefighter school in the Navy is intense and there is no other like it. However, if you're thinking medical, sign up for corpsman.

there's a huge difference between the marines and the navy. the marines are much rougher, stricter, harder to get promoted, and they're brainwashed much more than any other branch. they can say what they want. they're brainwashed. the navy is pretty laid back. they're kindof made fun of by the other branches because they have 'looser' weight requirements. (they're fatter)
