Most are right (except the one about bacon...what a Miwaukee faux pas that is!). But the real secret ingredient is a Vienna frank. If you goof on the frank, the rest is just generic fare.

If you're in a real pinch, I suppose you could substitute a David Kosher beef frank. But you'd have to be either really desperate or totally kosher to go that far afield.

I have heard of Sauerkraut, Tomato's, Pickles, Onions, Olives, Lettuce, Bacon, Chili, Cheese, Ketchup, Mustard, Mayo etc on Chicago Style Hot Dogs. Anything goes. Raid the refrigerator!!!

A Chicago-style hot dog – as served in the U.S. city of Chicago, Illinois – is a steamed or boiled all-beef, natural-casing hot dog on a poppy seed bun, topped with mustard, onion, sweet pickle relish in fluorescent green, a dill pickle spear, tomato slices or wedges, sport peppers and a dash of celery salt — but no ketchup.

I'm in the Chicago area. They usually put onions, pickles/relish, tomatoes and mustard. NOT ketchup!! Hot or sweet peppers are another topping. Also chili is often a choice.

Pickle Relish (or just pickle's)
Mustard
Onion
Tomato
On a poppy seed bun

I rather have ketchup then mustard and bun with no seeds.
Seeds can get stuck in the teeth..lol...so don't forget the tooth-picks!!

You can also put cucumbers on it too.

Other great hot dogs are: chili, or chili and cheese

Ketchup has no place on or anywhere near a hot dog. It's a sin.

All of the suggestions above are AWESOME(espcially the saurekraut...yummie!!). And who says ya gotta have hot dogs?? Grill up some italian sausages or even better.....brats and soak em in a beer bath with some onions.

Usually pickles, mustard, onion, relish, tomatoe, sometimes cheese(not always), green peppers, and sweet peppers. Some people add catsup but it's not usually used.

Yummy! Love that style...
Usually the way we do ours is... spicy mustard, cucumber, onion, bit of celery salt, long slice of pickle down length of the dog, and dont forget the wax peppers!(The ones from the jar... not spicey...mmmmm)
