I think the approach to take, or not take, depends on whether your friends bad breath is just an occasional occurance? Something that happens with the same frequency as others, like you and me, because we happened to eat something odorous recently? Or...and here's the one that you may want to chat with your friend about...is the bad breath a thing of consistency. In other words, day after day, week after week, no matter what your friend eats, etc, he/she seems to have bad breath. I think you should diplomatically talk to her about it. The reason why I feel that way is because (depending on age, etc) bad breath with a medical cause, can affect your friends standing in her job, career goals, job interviews, many things that are important to her in life but the breath, left untreated, could frustrate or douse her ambitions altogether. Bad breath may be caused by things other than garlic in the spaghetti.

Well, you can try to tell them without saying a word, by buying some good breath mint gum and offer your friend some. But really if this person is truly your best friend then you need to let them know. Best friends tells the honest truth about you. My best friend and I are the best that any body could have. We always ask each other "Does this look funny?" or "Does this look okay?" Just tell your best friend and if this best friend get upset, just them that best friend tell the truth and that your just trying to help.

Since you are best friends you should be honest with her, just don't be rude about it. If my breath smelled bad I would fully expect my best friend to let me know about it. As a matter of fact I'd be more mad if she didn't lol

I wouldn't just flat out say that, maybe be like "omg my mom just bought this new toothpaste and it's so friggin good, seriously my breath just feels so fresh afterwards, i love it, you should tell your mom to buy that kind so you can try it out!" you know, put it in a subtle gentle way, that's always a touchy subject.
