No I wrap it in some cling wrap or in press and seal and bake it in the microwave for about 10-15 minutes. I do it with sweet potatoes too, but no holes. YUMMY!

NO! Rub it with butter and poke it with a fork maybe a few times, then wrap it in tin foil and bake it right on the rack.

If you poke it with a fork, it maintains its moisture better. But if you cut a slit, you get that crispy skin around the slit, so if you like crispy, go for it.

nope..........its one of those old wives tells....you know, it will blow up if you dont poke holes in it. kind of like this........we do it because our moms did it, and grandma did it. try baking a potato without poking a hole in it.....see what happens. NOTHING but a baked potato. i actually just learned this concept last month from my sister in law. all these years i spent so much time poking holes in the pototes!

a fork slit will do for a conventional oven but I would slit it if you are going to microwave it

yes ,so it lets steem escape and not explode .jab it about 5 times on each side with the tip of a sharp knife. then nuke it about 4 minutes
