For quite a while, media buzz about the BlackBerry centered on a patent infringement suit between Research In Motion, who make the BlackBerry, and NTP, a small company that owned the rights to some old patents regarding wireless email. Once that suit was settled and the BlackBerry network no longer faced a possible nationwide shutdown, the BlackBerry wasn't such a hot story in the press.
As for the device itself, the BlackBerry remains a very popular device and is offered by nearly every wireless phone carrier in North America. It's been a few months since any new BlackBerry models came out, so the buzz will probably not pick up again until RIM starts hinting at the next generation of BlackBerry handsets, which are rumored to have impressive multimedia capabilities.

Well, in the first place Palm and another co. sued the crap out of them for patent infringement and since Palm has gotten in bed with MS and now can run Windows (as well as having many other bells and whistles) they have pretty much taken over the market.
