THEY SHOULD!! There are 3 major candidates, they have different proposals that concern America.
Is everyone aware of each candidates proposals?
Each candidate proposed their plans on the presidential debate. I'm voting for Obrador, the EX major of Mexico City. He promises to increase the tax on the rich and decrease the tax on the poor.
Another candidate (Calderon) proposed another taxing plan. He proposed to reduce the taxes on the rich even more since they already paid good money, and increase the taxes on the poor because they are majority and more money will come to the country from them. Some want to give out perks to Mexicans staying in Mexico, another wants to help Mexicans going over there. They have different ideas on using the money sent by Mexicans from the USA to Mexico.

The increase or decrease of Mexican immigration depends on the next president bettering or worsening the Mexican situation.

Do Americans realize how much this election means to them?

Obrador wants make it more difficult for American companies to come here, that would decrease outsourcing in the USA. Calderon wants to make it easier for American companies to come here, that would increase outsourcing in the USA.

I do care, but that is mostly due to the fact that I live within sight of Tijuana. Of the three major candidates, I suppose I find Calderon the least scary. His election probably means a continuation of Fox's policies, and I think he has the clearest understanding of the interdependence between our two economies. Here in the US, we have become dependent on cheap immigrant labor in the agricultural sector, and too much illegal immigration results in the situation we have in some counties in Georgia and North Carolina: schools and hospitals are being inundated with non-English speaking students and patients, bilingual teachers and medical personnel are not available, and the social infrastructure is being destroyed as a result. In Mexico, you have become dependent on money being remitted by immigrant laborers, and a sudden interruption of that money would destroy a good bit of your economy, which is in nobody's interest. We need to strike a balance between not enough and too much. Suddenly, the status quo doesn't look so bad, does it?

I don't think it will make a lot of difference here, except that I am not sure business here will trust Obrador who I understand is already saying he won't fulfill part of the NAFTA treaty. Mind you, I am not sure I like NAFTA, but one of the things business thinks of leftists is that they don't live up to their side of a bargain.

I also think he is volatile, and would prefer Calderon. Either one wants illegals to keep coming here whether we like it or not. It is up to us to stop allowing that. Then they can deal with what is rightfully their problem to begin with.

Also, I don't know that not having US companies in Mexico would stop outsourcing. It would only impact outsourcing to MEXICO.

Isn't it the Calderon dude who threatened to file lawsuits in the US if any of our national guard apprehend and deliver to the border patrol any illegal alien? Vote for him if you want to see your country really collapse. There will be a call for a massive boycott of Mexican products after the first lawsuit is filed. You might want to take a look at what happened to France just recently when there was a massive boycott of their products.

When the Mexican Presidential candidates are campaigning in the US we should be concerned. When one of the candidates is a full-blown marxist we should be worried.

Unless you tell me he's going to press a major campaign to get them back home and protect their side of the border, denounce dual citizenship, and close all of the consulates in our country and have only embassies, I am sorry but it sounds just like more of the same to me.
