How big is too big for a hidden tattoo (does not show in uniform) for one to be denied enlistment in the U.S. Army? Mine is about 5x4 inches on my right shoulder blade. Is this too big?

Not too big at all man.

I believe the rule is still that it cannot cover more than 25% of exposed skin while in uniform

(For the Air Force that is, Army may be a little different)

No. As long as it is not visible when the uniforms are worn. The Army is the least strict service with tatoos. I have 5 and they were no problem. Most of the guys I served with had them when they enlisted.

Unless the tattoo is on or above you neck, or below the wrist you should not have a problem. This is aside from the nature of the tattoo of course.

Don't worry about it. They want people so they don't worry about tattoos anymore. You think yours is big. You should see some of the sailors were my husband is stationed at. They have ones that go clear down their arms.

no such thing as too big. As long as it's not offensive, it'll be okay. Hell, my recruiter never even knew about my tattoos. She never even asked.
