I have been coming here for a couple of month and it seem just about anytime people mention the breed of their dog its always "Pitbull" so I am wondering if their is some common thread between Pitbull owners and Yahoo answers, or if just its some sort of weird power thing with Pit owners that they feel some sort of need to mention the breed.. I see other breeds mentioned occassionally and usually in reference to a question where knowing the breed is important... but the number of Pitbull dogs in the world seems out of proportion to the number of times they are mentioned here in Yahoo answers.. has anyone else noticed this and finds it odd???

I might add.. I never said I didnt like the breed.. just that its interesting people seem to feel a need to mention it more than other dog owners feel the need to mention their breed....

there are not more homeless pitbulls than any other breed.. statistics show MUTTS (mixed breed dogs) to be the most commonly dumped dogs, followed by intelligent/active breeds like Border Collies, then large dogs, such as Labs...

yes, i have noticed it in the 3 weeks that i started using this site. i personally dont care for pitbulls. i think alot is because owners feel they need to defend the breed since they get, and many deserve, a bum rap. i have noticed more on pitbulls being given reference to than any other breed.

You can thank the media for all of the ruckus about pit bulls. And those of us who own them try to take the time whenever and wherever possible to educate people about the breed and curve the negativity that the media has caused about the breed. What better place than yahoo answers to take the time to post a few threads to help educate people on a very misunderstood breed of dog? Also, the world is infested with pit bulls right now. They suffer more abuse than any other breed and there are more homeless pit bulls in the world than there are any other breed so they need help...not hate. So the mentioning of pit bulls on yahoo answers has nothing to do with the power of owning a pit bull, rather it has to do with the power of educating society on a very loyal and wonderful breed.

Hey Thekla -
ANY breed is only a bite away from being banned or restricted. MANY breeds are on a list somewhere, even Huskies, Frenchies, Bostons, and Keeshonds. What will you do when it is YOUR dog you have to euth? How will YOU feel if others just say ha ha?

I do not have PBs and do not particularily care for them, but not because of the AR and media BS, its just not a breed I am interested in. However, anti-dog laws are bad for ALL dogs, and that is why I am vocal about dog banning. If you are not part of the solution and helping to fight this crap, then YOU are part of the problem and have only yourself to blame when you are no longer allowed to have 'Fluffy' living with you.

If you love dogs then WAKE UP and join the fight!

I have a dog living at my house and YES - it is a P/B. It belongs to my son who is older and lives in his own home. We request to have it in our home for six months each year while residing in our summer home. However, my husband and I have learned not to be afraid of the this breed. Before being around them for the past 20 years we were ignorant about P/B's. If I heard the word or saw one I went out of my way to get away from it. It is my son's show dog and has won blue ribbons. The reason I always mention it is a P/B is because of the ignorance many people have about them and I want no one who could be afraid of her to unexpectedly come in contact and be more afraid. This breed is the most loving, loyal, and fun dog we have ever had at our home. The grandchildren love her. They use her like a rug and she in turn sleeps with them at night. I know everyone does not like them but remember it's usually the bad owners who give this breed a bad rap!

Never noticed...
But it's great if a PitBull owner is willing to share info & his love for his canine friend. Nothing wrong with that. Like any other dogs, Pitbulls deserve the same love & respect...

Well I myself have a pit bull, not that I bought it, my son just had to have one because everyone else has one that he knows. Don't know why, the dog is sweet (most of the time) but is extremely strong and could easily hurt someone. With all the junk going on these days, these drug dealers think they need an agressive drug to protect them.

ATTENTION--thekla's answer explains it all...the entire reason that pit bulls are targeted and slandered is because a large portion of them fall into the hands of stupid and insecure people who use them for the WRONG reasons! This doesn't make the dog bad, it makes the person bad!

hey i just asked a question about a pit bull and i noticed it too. i don't even like them. they're ugly and unstable. But my husband does. i think it's a man thing. haha. they want their dog to be the vision of themselves. manly, tough, mean, intimidating, ect. lately everybody wants one and they want everybody to know they have one. a new fad i guess. to bad they're getting banned everywhere. haha
