Sanitary pads (made of absorbant cotton) should work, though they need to be changed every 3-4 hours. Try a brand like "Always" or "Kotex," and follow the instructions on the bag.

What You Need To Know About Menstruation
Menstruation is the outward proof that a girl is becoming a woman. Having a period is your body's way of saying it’s functioning properly.
During puberty, hormones are released from the brain that stimulate the ovaries. The ovaries then produce estrogen and progesterone -- hormones that cause the eggs in the ovaries to mature so the woman can become pregnant when she chooses to. Here's how the process goes:
Every month, one egg leaves one of the ovaries on its way to the uterus via the fallopian tubes. Meanwhile, in preparation for the egg, the uterus starts to develop a thicker lining and it’s walls become cushiony (the endometrial lining). If the egg reaches the uterus and is fertilized by a sperm cell, it attaches to this cushiony wall.
Most of the time the egg just passes right through without fertilization. Since the uterus no longer needs the extra blood and tissue which made up the walls thick, it sheds them by way of the vagina. This cycle will happen nearly every month until the ovaries stop releasing eggs, usually several decades later. (Menopause).
Periods are different for every woman. Some girls start menstruation when they're 9 or 10; some in their late teens. The length of the cycle also varies. Some periods last longer than 28 days, some shorter. If you have just begun your menstruation, your body will need time to regulate itself to these changes. Your periods might be a bit erratic at first. You may have two cycles in one month and miss having one the next month. How long your period lasts also varies . Some girls have their periods for only 3 or 4 days, others as long as a week. The menstrual flow of blood can vary from woman to woman also.
Some girls may have body and or mood changes around the time of their period. Menstrual cramps are pretty common during the first few days of your period. These are most likely caused by prostagladins. Prostaglandins causes the muscles of the uterus to contract. These cramps tend to become less uncomfortable and sometimes even disappear completely as a girl gets older. Over-the-counter pain medication like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can often give relief; if not, a health care provider can help. If your cramps are very severe, see a gynecologist.
As your period approaches, you may experience premenstrual syndrome (PMS). You may find your emotions amplified during this time. Many women get depressed, irritated, angry, and others cry more than usual or get cravings for certain foods. PMS may be related to changes in hormones. Hormone levels rise and fall during a menstrual cycle, affecting the way a female feels both mentally and physically.
Emotions can become more intense than usual, and many women may feel bloated because of water retention. When your period begins, PMS usually goes away. You may also have acne flare-ups.
Periods are a complex part of puberty, but also your body's way of telling you it is functioning properly and you have taken good care of it. You can still exercise, swim and do everything you enjoy. If you have any questions about periods, ask a parent, health teacher, health care provider, or nurse. You can also ask friends or sisters who have already had their periods. In time you will see that periods are a normal and routine part of your life.

Even with two dads and no mother figure in the house you should be able to still tell your birth father what is going on and that you need to have him get you some pads from the store. He may not be a women but he is smart enough to know that at some point in a girls life that this time will come.
I think also it's important to find some female that you would feel comfortable talking to in times like this. Is there a neighbor lady that you are friends with? Maybe some woman you see a lot of? Maybe someone on here even but find someone that you feel comfortable confiding in and also don't be afraid to involve your dad in all aspects of your life. He loves you and this is nothing to be ashamed of.

OK.....first of all, the chances are you started your period, also known as the menstrual cycle. It is a naturally ocuuring event...all women go through it. Ask one of your dads to take you to the store (pharmacy, supermarket, etc.). Don't feel as though you need to explain why, or just make something up like you need shampoo or something. When you are there (maybe its best to go to a pharmacy such as CVS or WALGREENS), you can ask the pharmacist for help or you can just select either a pad or tampon. TAMPAX has a "gentle glide" design, and they come in various absobecies (i.e. heavy, light). If you are not sure as to how to apply a tampon, ask the pharmacist. They are regulated by HIPPA (a federal law in which mandates they cannot devulge personal information to anyone) . Don't be embarassed. This happens to ALL women. If the bleeding does not stop, however, you may want to consult a doctor because there may be a more serious issue. I hope that you have found this to be helpful. GOOD LUCK!!!

It's just your period it's ok calm down. You need to talk to your dads even if you don't want to. They're going to have to get you some supplies. You need to change the pads every 4 - 6 hours atleast or sooner. This will keep bacteria from starting to grow. Try Always Ultra Thins they're comfortable for first time users and work well if you don't have a heavy flow.
And a girl should NOT wear a tampon until she's had her period for atleast a year.

Menstruation is a natural part of a females growing up process, even though you have two fathers, you can talk to them about this new occurrence in your life. Sanitary napkins come in various sizes and absorbency , you need to change these things every two hours or so till your period runs its' course, this usually takes anywhere from 4 to seven days, if this is your first period and I suspect it is, you are going to be in need of a hot water bottle, you are going to use this to alleviate cramps.Fill hot water bottle with very hot tap water screw stopper into top of the hot water bottle, wrap it in a towel and place against you abdomen..You might want to purchase some Midol or Pamprin , this help with stress and water weight gain as well as cramping , not to mention moodiness that has been known to accompany your monthly cycle. This is also referred to as P.M.S. pre menstrual stress. Relax this is a right of passage, every woman goes through this and none has died from it yet. Above all talk to your parents, right now you could use their support. Hope this helps you.

all men know women have their periods, thats how your mom told your dad she was pregnant, she didnt have her period so she knew she was pregnant, its a fact of life tell your dad that you have become a woman and you need him to take you to the doctor you can discuss any concerns with the dr. then you might be more comfortableand the dr. will probably talk to him in private and help him learn more... besides i'm sure his mom and if he had sisters exposed him to the fact that girls get their period once a month , try tampons its a lot less messy just read the directions and practice, if it hurts you have it in wrong , good luck sweety

I know how you feel. I would suggest tampons to help stem the flow, but if your not confortable with them (I wasn't at first) I suggest wearing "overnight" level pads with wings. I have never had trouble with them, overall I've found any small pads will either leak or need to be changed to often.(Most anything besides overnights are pretty much made to worn with a tampon). I know any kind of pad or tampon will fell odd at first, but you'll get used to it. If you want to e-mail me 4 support or anything, I'm at muse_gabrielle@yahoo.com. I hope my advice helps, and I wish you the best.
