There are a variety of things to consider.

Where you live. There is a huge difference from place to place. Some areas get $5/hr and others $10.

How much $$ do the people you are sitting for have? I mean if they are rich----they can pay more. If they are a young struggling family....give them a break. If you are reasonable, you get more work.

When I was younger and into babysitting---I NEVER set a rate, I always said to the people, pay me whatever you think is appropriate. I took whatever they gave me and was thankful. If it was $20 for the night, then that was what it was....and if it was more or less....thats the way it was. Just a thought.

It depends on where you live, different areas are different. It also depends on your age and your experience. I get between $9-12 an hour to babysit, but 5 years ago I was getting $6-8 an hour.

i always went by what i thought they could afford they could to pay. if i new they didn't have much money id sit down and find out what they would be able to pay. if i new money wasn't a problem id charge $7 per child per hour. but you also have to base it on how much you have to do while you are there. do you have to make meals, do baths, put them to bed, potty train, things like that.

Around $10 an hour is something reasonable these days. Its still cheaper than childcare. So yep thats my input.
