I really don't know about other chefs or the states they are in but I do know how much an hour I make.
I can make about 500 pancakes and 30 pounds of bacon or I can make about 50 firehouse roast chickens or I can make enough spaghetti to feed 150 people, from meat to sauce to pasta.

I know another chef who did about 1000 hot dogs in an hour, he used 3 grills and didn't drop any on the ground.

Hope that helps answer your question about how much chefs make. Sort of like asking what's a Grecian Urn?

My cousin is a chef on yachts in FL, and he makes $275-$300/day, for 3 meals/day, about a 10 hour day; rate depends upon how many guests and staff he has to feed

inexperienced line cooks: $8-10/hr
experienced line cooks: $10-14/hr
sous chef: $30, 000-40,000/year
executive sous chef: $40,000-50,000/year
Executive chef: $50,000-100,000/year

These are numbers for free standing, chef driven concepts in the Boston MA area. Hotels may have higher pay but tend to have dreadful food and work condidtions.

It depends upon the part of the country you are in and what facility you are working for. Maxibear is basically right but down south they pay their managers around $8.00 an hour salary which is the same as the cooks.

Not enough. Too many hours not enough pay. The best bet is working on your own. If you intend on raising a family the pay is good but nights weekends and holidays you may want to see your wife and kids.
