There are some effective ways of treating hormonal imbalances if that is in fact the real culprit in your case. Treatments are mostly if not all prescription, however, and are all given under the care of a medical doctor.

You are asking a flawed question, which many people ask. You want “non-drugs” i.e. herbs or natural supplements to treat your condition. Anything that you put into your body that has a positive effect (therapeutic) will also have side effects and risks. Your body does not care whether what you are taking came from a Yew tree or was synthesized in a lab. The reaction you will have to a substance is dependant on your body and the molecule itself. If there is a supplement that could help balance hormones, then there are side effects, period. There is no benefit in taking something that is supposed “all natural.”

Many synthesized ‘drugs’ as you like to call them, are actually safer and more effective then there original ‘natural’ counterparts. If you don’t believe me, just look at Aspirin. The original chemical was a powder from willow bark, and the active ingredient was later determined to be salicylic acid. Although this seemed to be somewhat helpful for minor aches and fever, it caused severe stomach irritation. Later, a researcher named Felix Hoffmann synthesized a similar compound, acetylsalicylic acid, (aka Aspirin). This new ‘drug’ was believed to be even more effective then the original extract and was proven to cause substantially less stomach and gastrointestinal disturbances.

Furthermore, many homeopathic remedies have been found to be no more effective then placebo, and actually harmful in some cases, despite what the manufactures claim.

You are certainly wise to be concerned about what you are putting in your body and that is good. You should focus though, on finding an effective treatment that works and is safe. Since the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not regulate the sale of most over-the-counter supplements, there is little oversight into what you are actually getting. An endocrinologist is a great place to start if you want to get to the bottom of this issue.

Making dietary changes is your first line of defense in treating hypothyroidism. Learn here https://tr.im/2rUcg

Many people with hypothyroidism experience crippling fatigue and brain fog, which prompts reaching for non-nutritional forms of energy like sugar and caffeine. I’ve dubbed these rascals the terrible twosome, as they can burn out your thyroid (and destabilize blood sugar).

1. Just say no to the dietary bungee cord. Greatly reduce or eliminate caffeine and sugar, including refined carbohydrates like flour, which the body treats like sugar. Make grain-based carbohydrates lesser of a focus, eating non-starchy vegetables to your heart’s content.

2. Up the protein. Protein transports thyroid hormone to all your tissues and enjoying it at each meal can help normalize thyroid function. Proteins include nuts and nut butters; quinoa; hormone- and antibiotic-free animal products (organic, grass-fed meats, eggs, and sustainably-farmed fish); and legumes.
