Lemon juice actually does work. And believe it or not if you pour beer on your head then go out and sit it in the sun your hair will be lighter.

Go to a beauty supply store...such as SALLYS...or any other one that is open to the public, and ask one of the employees to help you find the "Clairol Professional Complements line" and look at the color swatches that they have and choose the color of blonde that your hair normally turns after you bleach it....(when you do color , do your 'root's' aka: "new growth" only.....then find a color swatch that's your natural brunette color.....for example...If the swatch shows that you are a level 5 medium to dark brown...and you want your new growth to be a 10 light light blonde, that means you need to lift your hair 5 shades....If you do have to lift 5 shades or more...you will need to purchase some 40 volume developer...the level of blonde you wish to be and color bottle ( your color bottle should have the ounces as your measuring guide on the side of the bottle) and some gloves, to lift your hair that much and as long as your only doing your new growth, try using half the tube of color which will be an ounce or ounce and a half....but before you put that into your color bottle...apply double the amount of 40 volume developer and the normal amount of color....This is called the "Double 40 process....any color...non bleach lightening only works on natural colored hair...that's why I say new growth only.. and you won't want a color line between the blonde and your existing color, so comb through the areas you've applied color to, it will blend better and guarantee coverage. .Make sure to read how long to keep color on....it's generally 30-45 minutes. If you don't want any color to stain you, you can put vaseline around your ears, forehead and neckline and if any color touches that ...it will wipe right off...and you have any color outside of those areas...use rubbing alcohol....Then...rinse out and dry you hair and apply your desired color.....I hope this works for you..

Believe it or not, comb lemon juice through it and set in the sun.
It will lighten your hair naturally.

But Katie M has a really good point!

to get your hair lighter you can either dye it a lighter color or yo0u can put sun in it which is somehting that makes it lighter, yo0u go0 in the sun and the sun makes it lighter or yoo0u can use a blow dryer after yo0u put the sun in and it can be lighter i think it gets lighter by heat.
