I'm a Christian, and I've been thinking about this problem for some time. That seems to be a question that the Bible never answers. There are reasons as to why he should be worshipped, and how, and its benefits, but there's never a word about why he wants to be worshipped.
What does God get from us gathering in a church once a week and singing praises to Him? There doesn't seem to be any tangible benefit that He can reap from it. Does it give God a boost to his ego? Though I feel a bit guilty saying this, it seems so. As documented in the Book of Isaiah, God has seraphims who declare his greatness without ceasing.
I doubt that that's the reason, but I really can't think of that many reasons. Please answer. Logical answers and/or answers supported by the Scriptures would be greatly appreciated.

CoolGirl: While I appreciate your heartfelt answer: "Thou shalt have no other Gods before Me." It's in the Ten Commandments. God has commanded us to worship him.

christians_are_terrorists_777: Yes. It's in the Ten Commandments. However, one cannot be sure as to whether this command comes from egocentric thought. God may have issued the command to prevent us from worshipping false gods. Hence, he is a jealous God because He would rather have us worship Him than worship Gods that don't exist.
Come on, people. Scripturally based or logical answers. Please.

If you're actually reading this answer, I applaud you because there are a lot of answers on here...

God doesn't NEED you to worship Him. God is going to be the same whether you worship Him or not. He doesn't NEED you to pray for Him. He's almighty.

The point of worshipping God is strengthening the individual. Everytime you pray, everytime you follow God's word, you are becoming a stronger person. Prayer is like meditation--it's a stress reliever. If you're free from stress you are less likely to make other people around you stressed out. You are more likely to be happy and happiness can be infectious.

If you follow God's word and steer clear of alcohol, sex, gambling, drugs, violence then you'll be saving yourself a whole lot of trouble which will prevent problems. If every person actually believed in God and in these values there would be no such thing as crime, violence, unwanted children, broken homes, etc.

The point of worshipping God is to make sure that YOUR life lives up to its potential.

I hope this helped. If you have any questions then just message me.

That is a very good question. I have asked the same and never got an answer. Of course all questions pretaining to the why's of religion are usuall answered with, "Now that's a divine mystery". What a satisfying answer. Don"t you agree???? Well I don't agree. The answer I would give if God were human would be, Gosh I think (He/ She) is a control freaak. I am sure Lucifer (she)(LUCY) gave this inspiration. However God is not human, so I suppose this would not apply. Perhaps a politician can help us, since they have both devine and human nature. Maybe Al Gore can enlighten us.

A reasonable question to ask however I don't feel God wants to be worshiped or even needs to be but rather demands to be. He is worshiped because of who He is and by He I don't mean a person as we think of a person or a Grey headed Man in the sky but God is Spirit and something that we humans really can't comprehend. God is worshiped by everything, not just man, because He is the Creator and the ultimate one. God's presence always demands obedience and honor as when Moses approached God he couldn't look upon Him for Moses was not worthy as a creation to even look upon the creator. Why then do we worship and go to Church? It is more because we are bearing witness to our belief in God and our honor of Him and being a witness in front of others. We also go to learn more about God and share with like minded people. God is pleased with worship and displeased with sin which is why He won't even look upon sin. That is why Christ Blood is necessary because it covers completely sin and is the only way sinful man can approach a totally Holy and Just God. God doesn't want to be worshiped His nature and who He is demands it.

Don't feel guilty for asking questions. It is how people learn. Better to ask than just go around wondering...

There are several reasons. First of all, don't you like to be thanked when you do something for someone? If you have people in your life that love you - how does it make you feel when they tell you they love you? Try to think of God more as the Perfect Dad. If you have kids, don't you rejoice when they tell you they love you? Which also brings the point - don't you hate it when they do only because they want something?

Second of all, it is good for US too. When we praise Him, we think about the gifts we have been given and it opens up our hearts. By thanking Him and praising him, we can be better people to each other too. Being perfect, He knows this and so wants us to do it.

As a fellow Christian, I've wondered this a few times as well. However, the Bible makes it quite clear that God doesn't just want worship, but that he deserves it. Worship isn't just singing and praying and what-not; living a life worthy of God's Name is one of the most honourable ways to worship. And when we worship God, we are growing closer to Him, which is what He wants. He wants us to learn to be more like Him.

We are all different and believing and not is very common because we are all different we tend to think on our own and create our own ideas and beliefs its part of who we are thats what makes us different from each other if god whanted us all to believe in him he would have mde us like that but he rather made us differentman created god to try to explain something that eveyone wants to know and thats where do we come from who or what made us.And if god made us if there is a god anyways why If god made us in the image of himself why are we such back-stabing killing sinners and liars .?
Really if where the human form of him why are we the ultimate evil on earth and dont tell me its the devils fault because we have the abilitty to choose to do good or not and we end up doing the wrong thing. So i dont thinks theres a god hes just a profitable symbol used by church to make money. And if there was one that would explain why we are like this. Preety simple the name of god was invented and is used by church to make a proffit with that name.

Psalms 95:1
O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. 2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. 3 For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. 4 In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also. 5 The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land. 6 O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker. 7 For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.

Simply put, if we don't worship him, we end up worshipping Satan. He is lawless, and rebellious.

Matthew 4:10
Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Matthew 23:12
And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

John 1:12
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Revelations 3:11,21

Worship him because he is worthy to be praised, he is perfect, loving, merciful, and excellent. I know it was a question, but it seems more like a proud statement. You might need to humble yourself to God, research the bible. Learn of his Greatness, and all that he has done. You will not find yourself asking such a quesiton, if you truely knew him.

Why does he want to be worshipped?

you ask, all that he has done, and will do:
GOD DESERVES A THANK YOU.

Worship is homage consisting of both an attitude of deep respect, adoration, reverence and even awe and the activities designed to describe the position and worth of the One worshiped. Rev. 4:8-11 shows us that He is worshiped and praised continuously for being far greater than we.I don't think God necessarily wants or needs to be worshiped,he wants us to seek him, to love him and to imitate him,but we worship and praise him as a thank you for what he did and continues to do for us.

First of all God deserves our worship. The benefit is this, when the praises go up the Blessings come down. God doesn't need our praise. He is our Heavenly Father, it's like when we praise our earthly father it pleases him and he wants to do things for us. In the presence of God miracles can ocur. It is not what God gets when we gather it's what He does for us because we are faithful. I hope that helps.

Worship is the kind of reverence & honour that **MUST**be offered to God, because God Is the Supreme Being & Ultimate Reality of the entire universe.

But, God Gives His children a Special Kind of Devotion in return also:Agape. That Is the Love God Has for all of us.

A parellel example would be the love which a child gives to his/her parents. The child gives the parents a kind of love which is to honour & revere his/her own parents.

The love which the parents give to their children is a nurturing kind of love--not the same kind of love that the child has for them, & yet, both complement each others'love for a happy parent-child relationship.
