The only surefire way to rid your pets life of fleas, is to keep them on Advantage or Frontline during flea season. It's not a bad idea to do it for longer than spring and summer also.

Flea shampoos and dips are temporary fixes, as fleas can run into an animal's, eyes, ears, etc, where the shampoo and dip can't get. Not to mention, if the pet has been indoors while infested with the blood sucking vermon, you have them in your carpet.

If that's the case, you may want to pick up some flea killer for your carpet's as well.

You'll need tweezers, rubbing alcohol, a flea comb, a bowl or plastic container, and flea shampoo. I don't know about your cats but mine hate showers, so they can be a real handful. Suggest you trim their pointy little claws beforehand. Then give your cat a bath/shower with the flea shampoo. The flea shampoo will kill some and stun the rest of the fleas. Dry your cat gently, and while he/she's still damp, place your cat on a table or whatever so you don't have to bend over. If you have a friend or partner to help, have that friend/partner hold the cat still. Put some rubbing alcohol in the bowl or plastic container. Now run your flea comb through the cat's hair, starting with the top of the cat's head. With every pass, especially if the cat's really infested, you'll see 3 or 4 fleas stuck in the teeth of the flea comb. Hold the flea comb over the rubbing alchol and push the fleas out of the comb's teeth and into the alcohol. You'll have the satisfaction of watching the little pests kick and thrash for a few seconds before they die. Once you're finished with the top of the cat (don't forget the tail), turn the cat over and start parting the damp clumped hair with your fingers. You are now on a search-and-destroy mission. Pay particular attention to the neck and the belly. When you see a flea, grab the tweezers and snag the flea, and drop it in the rubbing alchol. If you're thorough, once the cat has dried off and forgotten about the shower ordeal, he/she will be purring like a well-tuned motor, free of all that biting and itching. Unfortunately, you're not done yet. Now you've got to get rid of the fleas in your house before they can jump on the cats and start the cycle all over again. You need to buy a flea bomb(s) from the pet store, follow the instructions on the label, set it off and leave the house for an hour or two. You have now committed flea-icide and your home should be flea-free. Repeat as necessary, but those flea bombs are pretty darn effective.

i hate to tell you this but fleas are here to stay. I have put a flea collar on my cat, I have sprayed him, I even had the terminex man come spray my entire house inside and out but still my cat has fleas. Someone told me to take a bowl of water and put a lit candle in it, for some reason fleas go towards it. Just get you a lot of anti-flea ointment for you and just keep spraying the cat

Any of the topical treatments like Frontline, Advantage work well, make sure that it is the ones for cats. After you treat the cat you need to treat the yard and there are all kinds of lawn products that kill fleas and ticks. You also need to treat her bedding, your couches, chairs, beds and carpeting. If you cat has fleas you can bet that they are also all over the house. There are sprays and powders for that. Just be careful and make sure that is not harmful to the cat. Have fun

Frontline works the best for me. Do not try any over the counter flea repellents, they can be very dangerous. Many cats have had seizures and allergic reactions and skin irritations.I used Hartz once because my cat was scaratching due to fleas and after applying it she got this horrible itch and was bleeding raw all over! Remember, very important! do not use advantix, it is only for dogs and dogs on advantix need to stay away from any cat.

NEVER NEVER use flea collars - they have killed many cats/kittens dogs and puppies....

you can give flea bath, use a flea comb (have sticky tape nearby and stick any fleas to the tape), use Advantage or similar topical treatment,
also you MUST vaccumm daily and wash all bedding - keep the cat inside only so she doesnt get re-infested... treat for worms - cats can get worms from fleas...

okay the only real way to get rid of fleas is advantage or frontline plus, if they are indoor cats like mine i give them one application every 6 months! if you buy it at spay and nueter clinic they are about 30.00 for a 3pack it says do it once a month bull! like i said i put it on my cats first in spring and again in fall sometimes, sometimes i know 20 people who have indoor cats and half of them only use it once ayear, so it is worth it and the advantage man when you put it on your cat for 24 hrs you can see the fleas jum,p off and they all die eme at iadorecats1955@netscape.com also you can buy advantage online thru austrailia, (wich is where i get mine) a six pack is like 25.00 versus 60.00 usa and it is the same well god bless you and your furry children. julia
