It's the ears. They hear stuff we can't. Some also bark when lonely or bored.

What I love is the wave of dogs in a neighborhood. Where I live, at night you hear a single bark blocks away. Then more and more barks join in, as the wave slowly nears my block, our immediate dogs join in, and then the barking slowly settles, as you hear it off in the opposite direction...I have a friend 2 miles away, and if we are on the phone, I can hear the wave traveling from my place to hers. (She has 2 dogs). And who knows what kicked off the whole event? That's where your question comes in!

I have two dogs. I also work with about 100 dogs everyday. The most common reason for this behavior is boredom. If your dog does this, he may just need some extra play time or longer walk daily or at least weekly. A dog that spends his day with little to no mental stimulation will become bored very fast.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/gsrNo

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

The policeman for the Neighborhood Watch says that dogs never bark for no reason. Even if it's just wind they are annoyed by something. Maybe they see or hear things that we don't.

They can hear things that we cannot hear. My little Daschund Scottie he will come inside if he hears thunder when we can't hear it. He'll also bark & sometimes dogs will bark at other dogs because they have better hearing than we do. Even though we can't hear some things they can hear better than we can.

because they have nothing else to do. Some bark because they have seperation anxiety, and some bark because they were conditioned to think that if they bark, someone will come back.

Its been said that animals can see things that we as humans can't! Another reason is a dogs hearing level is so much more defined then a humans. They hear things at a higher volume then we do.
