Clean by 7

Surely the 2 by 2 was a reference to the necessity for one male and one female to prolong the species ... what species has seven genders or needs seven instances to reproduce? Or are we talking about 7 in a bed sex romps here? I suppose that some basic species like bacteria would only need 1, but then they wouldn't be able to make the walk into the Ark ... in fact when you think about this it makes the whole idea completely crazy and obviously never ever happened!

Actually searcher is wrong the bible say's that some went in two by two, but some animals their was seven of their kind.
Remember noah sacrificed an animal to the Lord when he came out. I think it was a lamb. Imagine what would have happened if he only had two lambs?

Well, here's the thing: Genesis 7:2 says that seven of each ritually clean animal and two of each ritually unclean animal went on the ark. But Genesis 7:8-9 adds detail into HOW the animals boarded by saying that they went in "two-by-two". Thus, there were three couples and one extra "clean" animal. As for the unclean animals, they went in in couples.

Yep, most were 2 by 2, but some were 7 by 7...

"Take with you seven pairs of all clean animals, the male and his mate, and a pair of the animals that are not clean, the male and his mate, and seven pairs of the birds of the heavens also, male and female, to keep their offspring alive on the face of all the earth. "

Both!! The easiest way to think about this is ask yourself if any animals would've been left on the ark if 2 hungry lions were on it. Noah had to feed the carnivors to keep them alive. In order to do that, he had to bring some "extra" food along so the animals didn't eat the main "2 by 2" animals.

Unclean animals two by two. Clean animals just seven, not seven by seven.

It depends on the size of the entry in the Ark! :o) If seven clean animals could fit side by side, then they did. If they only fit one at a time, they they did that.

Originally (exodus 6:19-20) God told Noah: You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive.
Then in exodus 7 it says: Take with you seven (or seven pairs) of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and two of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, and also seven of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth.

It doesn't specifically mention them going in two by two, or seven by seven (sorry searcher).

Awesome...and without evolution, how did Noah get ALL of the species we have today on the ark...must have been a lot of room inside, a lot more that the dimensions that are LISTED IN THE BIBLE would allow...
