He has a high metabolism!! Good for him!!! I weighed 60 pounds up until I was in 9th grade!! Now you see kids that are 5 weighing that much!! As long as you Doctor is okay with it, you should be too!!! Your husband is thin and by the looks of it your son is following in his footsteps. And if you are thin then how is he supposed to be bigger??? He has both your genes!! Be happy that he is healthy and stop worrying!! He will be fine!

Don't worry. As he gets older, he will gain more weight. My cousin was a little bean pole when he was a kid, and now that he is 18, he's actually too heavy. That is usually what happens when you're worried about his weight and keep shoving food in his face. It catches up with him and then he's unhealthy in another way. Have you ever heard of a person that had health problems because they were naturally too skinny? I never have. My boyfriend was a very skinny kid, and now that he's 20, he is a very healthy weight because his Mom didn't worry so much about him because she is a doctor. He will be fine, he's only 8. He'll be heavier when he's older.

I have almost the opposite problem as you do, but it's still about weight. My son is going to be 2 and he is the size of an average 4 year old. The doctors tell me not to worry because everything is proportionate. (height and weight) I guess we just need to take the doctor's word. You can always take your son to see another doctor for a second opinion. Otherwise, just wait it out! He'll hit a growth spurt soon enough!

try ensure or pedisure they are for nutrition and weight gain. My son is 7 1/2 and very skinny (at Old Navy i buy a size 4 with the adjustable waist and still have to "pull" them in) he is about average height with his friends though. I think height would play a factor as well as weight but if the dr. says he's fine he probably is. If you doubt though go see another dr. that is your right!

Stop worrying so much Mommy! As long as he is active and acting like a normal 8 year old then you shouldn't lose sleep over it. If he is happy and the doc says nothing is wrong then I think you're safe. He's just one of the lucky ones..you know the kinda people most of us are jealous of because they eat everything and don't gain a pound. But follow your motherly instinct if you're ever in real doubt.

My kids are 7 & 8 years old and since birth they have always been under the percentile mark on the growth chart, but since Novemeber, my 8 year old gained 13 lbs and grew almost a foot in height, and is now at the 50th percentile on the growth chart...the doctor was speechless as so was I. My son was always very then and an extremely picky eater and now, no joke he has CHUNKED up, he has baby cellulite dimples on his tummy. It is based on your child and in time he will catch up. Everybodys bodies are different as well as their metabolism...He just may be one of those lucky ones that can eat anything and be able to keep the pounds down. When my kids started kindergarten they were still wearing a 3T & 4T and their school was a uniform school and it was very difficult to find uniforms in their size, but as time as passed by he has almost gotting up to his right size. He is still a little shorter than the rest of the kids but he is getting there. Just have patience. At first the doctors were wanting him to get hormone testing done and tests to see if he had sleep apnea but I refused to believe that there was something wrong with them, both me and their dad are pretty short and were not big kids, so i knew in my heart that it was genetics...Another thing that has helped is that I have giving my kids freedom of the kitchem. If they want a snack they eat, I do not believe in depriving my kids of food when they want it, because I know that when I'm hungry I eat so why not give them the same benefit. I do limit candy and junk food because that is not good for them, but they have an endless supply of fruits and vegetables and sandwiches and what ever else they want, but the rule is you can eat a snack when you want it but they have to remember that when dinner time comes around they still have to eat almost everything on their plate. Just have patience with his growth, he'll eventually come around. The doctors are usually right, but if you do not trust your current doctor then get a second opinion. Just what ever you do, if they offer hormone shots, don't accept unless there is a medical condition that requires it. They almost wanted to start giving mine the hormone shots but I decided that unless it was ABSOLUTELY necessary it wasn't going to happen because I do not believe in altering genetics unless it is medically necessary. I believe that God makes everyone in their own special way and if that is the way he intended to make them then thats the way they should stay. If his dad is thin then chances are is he is just taking after him, so you shouldn't have anything to worry about. My brothers have the same mom and dad, their mom is like 5'8 and thin and my dad was like 5'3 and then. My oldest brother is like 6 foot tall and thin and my other brother is like 5'3 and thin, each one of them just took after a different parent. My kids are both short, my oldest is short and stocky and getting chunky now with brown eyes and my youngest is short, thin with broad shoulders with green eyes...I am short, big boned with brown eyes and their dad is short, stocky with brown eyes....where my youngest son got his green eyes from, i have no idea, but it is all genetics...just let nature takes it way.

My friends niece is the same way. She is perfectly normal. If you do not feel comfortable about what the doctor told, then perhaps you need to see a different doctor. Some children are overweight at that age and some aren't.

My almost 11 y/o is only 55 to 60 pounds and is thin. She works out in Dance Gym and Cheerleading. And she eats alot!!!!! Mostly junkfood too. If its really bad then confront him or physicl help. Talk to his gym teacher, if he does too much activity but less food that could very well be the problem. It could just be geans. Trace back your history. **Good Luck**
