Of course not, lots of cops let the power go to their head and become real jerks and do bad things. Its the few bad ones that give the good ones who are still human beings such a bad rep.

I don't think ALL police officers are dishonest. Unfortunately I think that those who are dishonest outweigh the honest ones. I'm sure the pressure of being a police officer have something to do with it. They deal with all sorts of things day in and day out. I think you have to be strong especially when working around drugs. I think that's where most of the "dishonesty" comes in. Its a source for making extra money to supplement their income.
I DO NOT condone dishonesty, but I have a theory that if police officers were paid more money, they would be less likely to be tempted to go the wrong side of the track, so to speak. They don't have any easy job at times, and they do put their life in danger everyday, something we take for granted.
Its rough to sometimes keep your head above water, and not only for police officers, but for a lot of middle class people, the temptation is always there, but the hard part is to have a strong will and not be tempted.

In a perfect world, they would be. However, we do not live in a perfect world, and police officers are human beings as well. So, no - not all police officers are honest, the same way not all preachers are honest.

No, unfortunately they are not all honest. I think that it is a combination of things like too many dumb *** criminals get off simply because they claim to not understand something when they really do or get off with a slap on the wrist for a pretty serious offense, people who diss cops all the time, and those who are dishonest, and become cops to be able to cover up what they are doing, which is what I think the problem is in Louisiana--- just a bunch of extortionists who became cops to be better able to control the danger of discovery factor. After all, who's gonna arrest 'em if they are the cops?

It is statistically impossible to have a group of people that large and have all of them be honest.
I would have to say the vast majority are honest, of course there are exceptions - NOPD is notorious for its crooked cops.
As a former cop and someone who is married to a cop - I can honestly say I have never seen and officer behave in an inappropriate manner.
I do want to point out that it is legal for a cop to lie during an investigation to ferret out information. It is a common technique. That doesn't make them dishonest IMO. If they lie on the stand or in a ticket - then yes that is dishonesty.

*all* - no
But most yes. I think there's more honest officers than honest lawyers and other officials. I know there's more honest ones than the ones we vote into office...and not enough want to show up to "fire" them.
After all - our imperfect legal system makes you swear to tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Then lawyers let you tell the "truth" that allows them to win cases...which may not be the whole truth.

no.. for a good example get the book called Rotten to the Core by Martin Yant. It has the dirty lowdown on some of the police officers in my hometown. Very interesting book. You may find it at your local library.

very few are. look at new orleans. they stole cadilacs from the dealer and most of the force ran away. knowing many in the work i did for the government, one out of 100 was honest. to much ego with the badge. in law school we used to say they hide behind a badge as they can't get real jibs. the reason we are out there is they screw up so much.
