She will need the passport, but the kids might be able to be listed with her.
Quickest way is have her come for a temporary visit (tourist). She will have to leave when the time limit is up (3 months I think, but you can check), and then re-enter. Could get expensive and bothersome, depending on how close to the border you live.but it would be legal. However, she would not be able to legally work, etc. in the USA on a tourist visa.
If you want to get her some kind of residency status, though, you'll have to look into fiance or spouse visas - although that implies that you intend to marry her.
Still, I think those are the QUICKEST legal methods.

The quickest way is through a fiancee visa. You file a petition, Form I-129 for her and list the kids as derivative beneficiaries.

They come in for a period of 90 days. Within that 90 days you must marry her or else she goes "out of status" -- legal terminology for she becomes illegal.

Then, before her 90 days expires, you file for Adjustment of Status (Form I-485) for her and the children. In the meantime, she can obtain work authorization by requesting a work permit (Form I-765).

It should take approximately 1 year from the date your marry and file AOS paperwork for her to get her interview with INS (CIS) for her green card.

It will take about 3-6 months for the I-129 petition to be approved. Once it is approved, CIS sends the package to Cd.Juarez, the US Consulate in Mexico that will process her for her fiancee visa.

The forms are pretty confusing. You should get an attorney to do it right and avoid any delays. All in all, it should cost you -- in attorney's fees only (not including filing fees that Immigration (CIS) charges) about 1,500 to 2,000.

Iam an American and My husband came here to the states on a student visa. We are married and he still has to get his "papers" Even if you all get married then she would not automatically made here legal to be here in the states she would still have to get her permanent residency, and then citizenship, Bueno Suerte Tambien. I think that in order to get the papers that you would have to be here for a year, correct me though if Iam wrong.
