No, it's a horrible book. It's definitely a bad book to get your morals from, it's not truth, it's horribly written fiction... the only reason to read the Bible is if you're looking to become an atheist!

Well, this is a misguided question. First of all, the Bible NEVER promotes slavery or prejudice. "Slavery" in the Bible is actualy an ancient form of indentured servitude. Basically, an indentured servant is someone who does services like manual labour or something else in exchange for food and shelter, provided by the master. However, every seven years, the Jewish festival called "Jubilee" gave servants a chance to either continue being a servant or return to normal life. In the ANE, life as a lay person was never easy or a sure thing. Life was definitely not as simple as it is today; the Hebrews lived "hand-to-mouth". They didn't work for profit: they worked to survive. But an indentured servant was GUARANTEED food and a home, in exchange for doing work. This may have been the most fair and humane option for a family. As for prejudice, Biblical Christianity, in reality, is the ONLY solution for racism. In Christianity, God created all humans as equal; none is superior to another. Evolution, on the other hands, hold black people, the Aboriginals of Australia, and other indigenous people as less-evolved than caucasians. I cannot go much farther in detail, because the question is rather vague, but I'll finish off with a point: if the Bible is actually a revelation from God to man, why not trust it?

The Bible did not promote slavery, the Egyptians made slaves of the people of Israel. Moses kept saying, "Let my people go". Prejudice? The Romans nailed Christ, Our Savior, to the cross.
God sent Jesus here to die for the sins of all mankind so that he, Jesus, could defeat Death (Satan) so that our souls can have eternal life.
If you read and study the Bible, you will get to personally know God and Jesus and you will know what they expect of you.
For moral guidance, there is no better book to read than the Bible.

i wouldn't recommend the bible because it is not God's word, it is humans'. after God sent down the Bible, many people didn't want to follow His laws, so they changed it so much so many times. i recommend the Quran. it hasn't been changed since the day it came down. i also have proof because if you take every Quran in the world and look it up word for word, they would all be the same. also historians have found a thousand year old Quran and after checking it thoroughly, they concluded that it is the same letter for letter. check the sites below if you want to check out what Islam and the Quran is about.

Yes, since moral absolutes came from God. Some things were put in the Bible to show us how NOT to act and some things were put in the Bible to show us how we SHOULD act. With each are also shown consequences and rewards, be it negative or positive.

i'm undecided of your question, or a thank you to respond to it. we are advised interior the Bible that Jesus geared up in basic terms one church (Ephesians 4:4, Matthew sixteen:18). the numerous denominations immediately are a results of fellows employing what they think of to the church, extremely than what God mentioned. You mentioned: i do no longer think that christians ought to abide to each thing interior the bible be conscious for be conscious could I ask, what words ought to we abide via then? Which areas of the Bible are no longer important? i think of which you're on a thank you to a reliable know-how, once you're saying "I extremely have been attempting to look on the full background of the bible, the beginning place of the church, who wrote the bible and what background says approximately this - extremely than what we are only taught to settle for via fact the holy spirit says so". circulate back to the start of the church (recorded interior the Bible, the e book of Acts) and hint the church. i think of you're able to discover it very interesting to be certain what they did that made them Christians, verses what maximum church homes do immediately.

Certainly, if you are really damn stupid. If it is not obvious to you that, generally speaking, killing and theft is wrong, then a couple of the ten commandments might point you in the right direction. Ignore the other eight, of course.

Jas:4:1: From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
Jas:4:2: Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
Jas:4:3: Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
Jas:4:4: Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
Jas:4:5: Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
Jas:4:6: But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
Jas:4:7: Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Jas:4:8: Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Jas:4:9: Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
Jas:4:10: Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
Jas:4:11: Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
Jas:4:12: There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

What other book teaches us to love our enemies and pray for them. Do you have it inside yourself to know what morals are based on.
