Really, give her a piece of your mind, I remember her and read her answer as well, it was RUDE much! I don't agree, I mean if the budgie was hand raised, it only knows the ways of life around it's human or trainer and if let out in the wild it wouldn't find the same food, shelter, and care. Obviously, there's danger all around, but when it comes to the wild, it's definitely hard for the budgie to adapt to a completely new environment. The thing is, people like Ms. Keeping Birds is a Sin don't understand the relationship of a trainer and it's bird, and even if she did, she wouldn't be mentioning crap like this to other people.
By the way, it's only cruel if you don't nurture the bird and take care of it. I am a bird lover, I know it's horrible to keep them locked up in cages, that's why I keep them outside all day and play with them there. I mean the wings are clipped, but not all, they can fly distances, but they never dared to go fly in tree or leave. It depends on how someone takes care of the bird and trains it well.

Ugh. I hate it when people say uneducated tripe like that. A bird that has never been in the wild and has not been trained to survive in the wild will die a horrible death to predators or starvation. Most pet birds last no longer than 4 days when they escape. Saying it's cruel to keep a pet bird is like saying its cruel to own a dog, especially if you don't let it run around free and crap in people's yards >.< . A responsible pet owner will protect their pet and balance that with giving their pet the room to be animals.
If people were concerned about letting their birds flying free, they'd build an aviary. That gives their birds more than enough room to fly, mate, raise chicks and set up territories. It's not perfect, but it's better than being eaten by a cat or starving in someones backyard because they don't recognize the food in bird feeders as food..
Just my 2 cents worth.

Never release any animal that has been bred as a pet. They die slow and painful deaths, usually starve, or are killed by other animals.
Occasionally, they survive and threaten surrounding ecosystems.
Tell Sasha it would be more cruel to release the bird, it only knows food in a dish and people as friends.

Who is this Sasha? Is she a member of PETA? I know they think having birds as pets is cruel. I love animals with all my might and pamper all of them and I do not think it is cruel. If the bird was bred in captivity then it doesn't know how to survive in the wild, and you probably don't live in its natural environment anyways, so if you let it loose, it would be a death sentence. Some people need to think their ideas through before they step up on their soapbox. Hmm "I think keeping animals as pets is cruel, you need to let it loose!" OK that sounds pretty freakin stupid, doesn't it?

Tell sasha she's an idiot!
A hand raised budgie would be so sweet and gentle, letting it free would be the end of your little feathered friend, sasha sounds like she/he needs to do some research. Bloody Hell!

i agree with her a bird raised in captivity has no idea how to survive in the wild and as a result makes for a easy feed to those who can.
Help feed the wild animals and let it go
