Can we talk without our hands?

Question

Today, while driving home, I looked in the rearview mirror, and noticed the man behind me, talking away on his cell phone. He was alone, but I could see his hand moving in gesture as he talked. Now, if we had no hands...as some are unfortunet not to have, what do they gesture with instead? Can we talk without gesturing? This is pure curiosity....

If we had no hands, I believe we would sway our bodies back and forth and side to side to make gestures to illuminate what we are saying.

It is possible to talk without hand gestures, but it is a good thing (unless you're driving or handling machinery, etc.) we do use gestures. They enrich what we are saying and help to get our point across.

yes we can its called hands free besides you cant make a phone call and drive at same time its a big fine here and 3 penalty points you get 9 you louse your license .
but then again i think you is lucky to see someone doing that.,

We can. Human expression also uses body language to convey moods, exclamation, emphasis, and shades of meaning. If you have ever watched wild primates, like chimps, they communicate alot without much vocalization. Body language is purer than verbal speech. It's less natural to lie with your body posture than it is with the words you say. That is why I like to watch ice-dancing and dance in general. Movement can express meaning and is beautiful to watch.

There are times I talk and with my hand or hands moving in one direction then another. Perhaps with no hands I would sway my arms instead.

well im not shure but i no i see alot of peeps doing that too........but i think that some peeps can and cant talk with out them because peeps that cant talk have to us sign langue and some black peeps just talk away with there head goin side to side and there hands all over the place.but peeps that cant talk and they dont have hands cant really do anything but peeps can talk with out hands because if he was talkin on the phone and there wasnt any1 there then there is no point of him doing that cuz aint no one goin to see him.

he probabley had an iChat, like on Making the Band 3. It is a camera between 2 people, so they were probabley deaf
