If you have a source that provides 110 volts and you need 12 volts out, what you need is a regular power supply, not an inverter. Inverter usually creates 110 volts from 12 volts.

There are many modules that will do exactly what you want. You will perhaps have to have a regulated kind, instead of common wall warts available at RadioShack and other stores.

How small does it have to be? You could perhaps locate this power supply else where and feed the wire to yoru small camera? You will need a transformer and one capable of supplying 15 volts at 500ma won't be that small. (15 volts because you will need extra voltage to make regulation possible)

Its perfect to observe it merely even as the automobile is operating. or you'll drain the battery. I ran the wiring from my battery to the interior the motor vehicle merely so i could very truly use it interior even besides the undeniable fact that even as i bypass camping out or fishing for the time of the wintry climate, my acquaintances and that i park our automobiles in coping with one yet another in somewhat of a round progression and then we may be able to open the hoods of the automobiles at the same time as they have been operating as a thanks to maintain warmth. i'd clamp an inverter to the battery so i could plug in a espresso pot seeing that I already had the hood open.
