When he is outside he attacks it, when he is inside he attacks the one in the kitchen, to the point that when I leave I have to put it on the countertop. I can't even leave for a second without him attacking it. I take it out everyday, and I don't put fresh foods in it. I know I can just keep it out of his way, but it the behavior I want to change. He is a really good dog otherwise. Please somebody help me.

Put a set mouse trap on top of the trash and cover with a tissue. When the dog goes into the trash can, the trap will go off and scare him but will not harm him.

put an electric collar on the dog and an electric fence around the trash cans. Sounds heartless but it's very effective. They will learn via operant conditioning. You must put the trash can in various places or else the dog will just learn to avoid that one particular place on your property. The dog needs to associate the trash can with shock. After that they will stop going near the trash cans.

The trashcans may be threatening to the dog or feels it may the a threat to you and your family. Remember, dogs see in black and white. Maybe "introduce" him to the trash cans and pat the can and console the dog when around it. When your dog is calm around the trash can give him a treat and praise him. He will soon learn that the trash can his not a threat afterall. Good Luck.

Start giving him whoppings and tell him your in charge. And you have to watch his behavior or he will eventually get vicious. Or use an electrical collar and before he attacks it, shock him and tell him " NO!! "

Have your dog and the trashcan 'fight to the death' I would pay to see that on payperview.

There can only be one.
