Korea was more of a "forgotten" war because the short span between WWII and Vietnam. Vietnam was seen by some as a waist of time while others thought it was important. During Korea, we were still "preventing communisim" while Vietnam was seen as protecting our "interests and saving face". When veterans returned home from Korea, there were welcomed as warriors and patriots. When veterans came home from Vietnam, they were seen as "baby killers and murderers". Society was different. During Korea, much of society was still very religious and moral. During Vietnam, much of younger society stepped away from religion and what was seen as moral and replaced it with what felt good at the time. Also, during Korea, society was still very patriotic. Many men enlisted because they felt it was their duty and time to fight. During Vietnam, patriotism had taken a back seat to sex drugs and rock and roll. Many men left the country because they were afraid to fight.
