This is what my boyfriend asked me last week. We have been together for 5 years, and he knows that I want to be married

Let me get this straight... why would marriage be the basis for him staying with you or not? If he would stay with you forever one way, he could the other way as well if he chose to do so. Who got the messy divorce in his family? It sounds as if he has issues with marriage and thinks that 3 years is the limit for love within a marriage. I would find someone who would not be so paranoid about commitments, as he clearly does NOT want to have a commitment - keeping your relationship open is his way of being able to step away easily without the complications of a divorce in 3 years, 5 years, 10 years, or even 1/2 year. His question is a way of stopping you from asking about marriage anymore. Good luck, but I would still find someone else who did not put conditions on your relationship like that...

I think that you should choose be together for ever because marriage always complicates things. Why do you have to get married, for a peice of paper that causes problems. now honestly how stupid does that sound. If you both love each other and make it work then it will it really has nothing to do with marriage only love and respect. If you get married then you have a chance of getting divorced, why make it possible for you to have that on your record!

To me marriage is a title, if you both really love each other than marriage should not be a hard thing to do. Me and my girlfriend have been together for 5 years, so I understand exactly where your coming from but in my opinion if you love each other marriage should not be really a hard thing to do.

I would choose be together forever and not married. I think if
I really loved someone I would rather know that I would be with them rather than worry about the ring.
