How long has this been going on? Has a retinal specialist told you the retina is torn/detacted?
As for surgery, which you may/or may not need, don't let fear keep you from trying...
Certainly anything is better than losing your sight
Let us know please...

If you do have a detachment or a retinal tear it must be taken care of immediately. Your odds of saving your vision GREATLY increase if you seek help sooner rather then later. If there is a tear or a detachment it will worsen with time and no amount of surgery can save it. However, if it is caught and treated in a timely way the odds of saving your vision and having 100% recovery greatly increase.

Laser surgery to treat a detachment is not in any way painful as the eye is not cut and the retina does not have nerve endings for pain (which is why a detachment or tear does not cause pain). Additionally the examination to determine if you have a detachment is painless- I have had it done many times.

I urge you to seek treatment RIGHT AWAY. Detached retinas are EMERGENCIES in the medical community and I can not stress the importance of prompt treatment.
