I'm thinking about buying a new car and I'm in the process of tallying the entire cost of the car including its maintenance costs and other upkeep expenses. Thanks in advance for your help.

Every state is different. Most states charge sales and use taxes. In some states, you can finance that but in others you can't. Some base the tag fee on the value or the vehicle, others base it on engine size, weight, or a flat fee system. There is also usually a title fee and other junk fees as well.

You'll need to check with your DMV to find out your exact costs.

I'm assuming this is true for all states, (I live in Indiana and it's on their website),I just bought a new car and I went to the website for my state BMV and they have a calculator on there. You plug in your county, VIN if you have it, or Year/Make/Model, and it will give you pretty close estimates on title and plate fees for the initial visit and your yearly plate fee. Just google your state's BMV and see if it works for you too!
