i suppose some do. what really bothers me is that non-celebrities pick up the causes of celebrities because they are deemed cool. i am now seeing "save darfur" magnetic ribbons on cars now...just shortly after George Clooney was on Oprah and the topic came up with him and Lisa Ling.

It most definitely depends on the individual celebrity in question (no pun intended). Do we really think that a Paris Hilton cares about anything but her next photo/publicity opportunity? No. Do we think that Bono truly cares about coming to the aid of people suffering from hunger and/or genocide? Absolutely.

I believe it's a mixed bag. Some are believers, some do it for publicity, and some do it to repair their image after a scandle. I am most disappointed however in the number of people who (at least in my opinion) confuse celebrity status with intellect or worldly awareness. They are people who have an occupation that puts them in front of cameras, in magazines and are assisted by expensive publicists. But none of these things makes the celebrity higher in intelligence, sensitivity, better read and more roundly educated, that some of our better high school students, college attendees, or others in america.

Celebrities feel blessed and want to give back out of the goodness of their hearts. Look how long Jerry Lewis has been doing telethons!!! Celebrities get plenty of publicity just walking from their car to their house!!!

I think a lot of them care about causes, but those sincere do not publicize it. Paul Newman for one does not brag about the millions of dollars he gives to charity. Neither does Bill Gates. The others, against wearing fur for instance, it is mostly publicity I think. They don't want to spend their millions really helping people, that would be too hard. Its much easier to protest things than actually help people.

They do it for both. I know a lot of celebs, but they say they do it for the cause, but some do it for the publicity. Some even do it for both, they do it because some good causes are not well known, if a celeb goes to a benifit, it becomes a big deal. Good for the cause and the celeb.

I think that with some celebs, its all about publicity. With Angelina Jolie, its different. She really has a good heart and she is trying to help all those people.

Generally as human beings I think they may have a slight interest. But who cares what they think, theyre rich so it probably is just publicity and some way to fill another hole in their egos.

I think many do care. A person such as Ed Begley Jr. cares very much about the environment.
There are many others that do as well.
Some will do it for the publicity.

Celebs are just like us and you know some people do things for different reasons. I think people with money are expected to share and probably many celebs just give money or use of there name. Anyway it helps others less fortunate.
