We adopted an older Great Dane. She's been the best dog we've ever had & cannot imagine our life without her. Sad part is that we've been thinking she's been on her last leg for so long now. Even our vet keeps saying things about her getting older and how she doesn't have 10 year old Danes in her office. We'll we've decided to find a new office then, b/c we aren't ready to say good bye this soon and come to find out there ARE 10 year old Danes out there!

Your new puppy is just used to being payed attention to once you help her learn that the option of being held is not always optional she will most likely come and sit by your feet. I would just try to pick her up 9-10 times a day tops. I would also make sure you give equal amounts of attention to both dogs.

She is sooooooooo young and needs to be with her siblings. Since you have her now, do not always comfort her with petting and picking her up when she is scared as this will turn her into a BIG PROBLEM. Crate train her so she will have her 'own' area. Your older dog hasn't accepted her yet, give it time. Watch The Dog Whisperer on The National Geographic. Ceaser Milan is wonderful with training people.

First of all 5 weeks is WAY to young to be away from it's mother..and I guess it's better that your dog is ignoring the new puppy rather than hurting it.Just give it a couple weeks they'll get used to eachother ..I'm sure they'll become friends..just be patient and supervise them while they're together.

NO i think its normal that a dog that you already have dislikes the new dog because one the old one dosent get enough attention as he did sooner or later they will get along just fine try even out the attention you give your dogs

The older dog should get more attention than the new one. Otherwise, she will become jealous of the pup and that will be a problem later.
