Hello ,
I had the same problem with my Labrador retriever , a trainer told me about a product called Dis-Taste I purchased @ DrsFosterSmith.com it worked like a charm what you do is add it to the dogs food , it comes in powder or tablets and it makes feces or muck taste absolutely awful to the dog after a couple of days your dog wont even smell his own muck or any other dogs , I highly recommend.

I know exactly why your puppy is doing this. When a mother is recovering from labor and taking care of the puppies, she usually eats her own muck because she needs to get back the vitamins that are in it to repay herself for the stuff her puppies were taking from her body. Your puppy probably is following this example and thinks this is totally normal and okay. Another reason that might combine to it is that when your dog thinks that pooping is a bad thing and he feels guilty for it, therefore he eats it to rid himself of the evidence. I know all of this because my dog does the exact same thing, and she's six years old. There's really not much you can do about it, except pick up after the dog very quickly and let him have more frequent trips to the washroom!

Try to get rid of it, before your dog gets it. I once heard that when they eat muck/ pooh, it's a sign that they eat too much meat. So you might want cut down on the puppy's meat consumption, too.

Dogs usually do this as an act of dominance. You can out pineapple in his food because when it comes out he is not going to want to eat it. You can also put tobasco on it and then very time he goes outside to poop- right before show him the bottle of tobasco- he will make the association. You can also get some pet trianing to let your dog know you are the alpha- NOT him!

It's some sort of a vitamin deficiency. What kinda food are you feeding him? You can try a "premium" food (Iams, Science Diet, Pro Plan) and (honestly, I've tried this and it works)....meat tenderizer on his food (easier if you feed him wet food, or sprinkle water on the dry and then the tenderizer). Something about the tenderizer makes his "doo" not so appetizing. Of course, you don't actually solve the problem if you don't feed the better food, and take care of the vitamin-nutrition issue.
Good luck....and remember...no kissy face!

Keep puppy and puppy poo in different places. As soon as puppy makes a doody, pick up the doody and put in in the garbage. Lots of dogs eat crap. You just have to be the first one to discover the load, and after a while, my experience has been that they grow out of it.

Get a water bottle and spray the pup whenever he starts doing it. He will relate eating his own "muck" to a bad thing.

Re-feed!! Yummy!!! Dogs can be really disgusting. Kissy, Kissy?? Puppies tend to eat really fast and swallow their food whole. It probably comes out in nearly the same form it went in. Maybe just a little moister.

This is generally a bad behavior. You can try Forbid or Dis-taste but, the simple way to solve the problem is pick up the poop and dispose of it.

He is not getting what he needs from his dog food, try switching brands. Try a really good brand, talk to someone at a pet store. Also try putting meat tenderizer in his food.
