To the jerks that just like to see something scared to death and killed for the fun of it.
If the cat is a wild cat and eats to live then it is ok for a cat or anything else to eat a bird or anything else. But I'm sure being you claimed the cat as yours it has a food bowl and eats well. So that means you just like to see things die. What if the cat went next door and the dog over there got hold of it and the guy said it is just a cat let the dog kill it. Not the same huh. It is your cat. There are too many people in this world so sooner or later you will start feeding your kids to the cats too just to see them die. Fun huh. AZZholes.
As far as the bird goes see if you can find a cage of some kind not a box because they really need to see what is going on around them. Go to any store and get some wild bird seed and keep clean water in there for it. Let it out in about a few days and It might be ok and fly away. If not keep it for a week or so. I could have a broken bone in side that will not show on the out side. It may live an it may not because the slobbers in a dog or cats mouth even a scratch would make them sick. With your help it might live.
But do one thing or the other, take it in and help it or kill it so it does not have to go through a horrifying next 2 or three days, till it finally dies from hunger or lack of water. Or a cat, dog or kid plays with it till it dies of a heart attack.

I would go to PetSmart or PetCo and see what they recommend. If you want to nurse it back to health make sure you buy some bird grain, I have a small bird and she likes the small mix grain that they sell anywhere. Also, birds like to use water for drinking and cleaning, so make sure you check the water often to see if it needs to be changed. Other than that, keep the bird and cat separated (obviously) and give the bird somewhere safe to stay. A box probably isn't good because birds like to be aware of their surroundings (like the person above me said) so if you have anything else that is safe to keep it in that has some way to look out, that would be good.
Good luck!

If it is noticeably sick it is not a good thing since birds tend not to show sickness well unless they are very sick. You could try calling an animal hospital in your area. some of them have emergency rooms. You might also see if a vet has a 24 hour call in service. If it is a wild bid it would probably be very difficult to raise it. Sorry if this sounds so pessimistic.

I work at a wild bird rehab and you should contact one in your area. Cat bites are hard to treat and usually need antibiotics, it is possible that the birds wing is broken. If the bird is too injured they usually have to be put down. I work at the wild-forever foundation and the have a website that can give you information. Cats take a very heavy toll on wild birds and it would help if you put a bell on you pets collar so the birds can hear him.

Let the bird rest up in a box of some sort, it may recover. If not you need to do the right thing and finish what mother nature intended. There will always be hunters and prey......kill the bird. Sounds heartless but better to kill something in pain than to let it suffer.

If a bird gets in a cat or dog's mouth, then you can really do nothing for it. Those animals have a different type of acid that can kill the bird, sorry.

Call your local department of natural resources. They usually have a list of phone numbers for local wildlife rehabilitators.
