I have heard mixed reactions from many people. One person said that if she eats more than say a spoonful of food, she throws up. She spends more time in the bathroom vomiting than she does any other function. Eventually she will die from dehydration.
On the other hand a fellow scout leader said she has lots 125 pounds and feels the best she has in over 25 years. So go figure.
Personally I would not do it nor would I recomend it unless you were grossly obese.

My sister had it done last year. She is very happy with the results, things she needs to think about are not being able to have carbonated drinks, not being able to eat certain foods ever again. My sister had a hard time for the first couple of months, she would get sick a lot from overeating. When you first get out of surgery there is a very strict only like 1or 2 ounces you can eat. Now she is very happy and she has gone from a size I think like 32 to a size 14 in like less than a year. Another thing to consider is that you will have a lot of excess skin hanging once you start losing weight. My sister has a lot and is planning to have plastic surgery to have it removed.

My stepfather had the gastric bypass surgery and has had nothing but problems since. Sure he lost a lot of weight. But he gained back at least half of the weight. Also within a half hour of eating, he dumps, literally. Let there be a bathroom nearby or God help us! And the gas and fumes....unbearable at times. Also he has to be sooooooo careful to avoid preservatives....they make him sick to his stomach something awful and makes him dump even faster. Sugar is another issue. Now he has to watch his sugar intake...and his blood sugar can drop very quickly. Also his body no longer absorbs the nutrients from the foods he eats. He has to go monthly to get vitamin B injections.
Just a few of the problems he has had since his surgery a few years ago. If you do decide to do this, I hope it goes much better for you than it did for him!
Hope this helps!

having dealt with obesity for the past year i check into the possibility of gastric nypass surgeryto solve my problem. i was also given information anout the gastric banding procedure i was also told that the banding prodedure was safer than the bypass. i know that if you are on medicare , they will not cover this type of surgery unless it proves tp be ;life threatening.check with your primary care dr. before considerig this type of surgery, also if the person is morbidly obese there may be a problen with anasethsia, also you might ned to log onto web md. and take theur body mass index, the guidlines for this is that you must have a body mass index of 100 or more. the averare bmi is 40

Yes I have had gastric bypass surgery, 3 years ago. First do all the research you can, on the doctor, ways it can be done, the cost, clinic you which to have do it, and your out of pocket expensive.
It is a life changing procedure, literally. It does change how you eat, feel, appearence, exercise, what you can't eat or drink, etc.
I lost 200 lbs, and am going well. No tolerence of sugar, for me causing dumping, which is not a pleasant processs.
Please check with your family doctor for his/her suggestion of surgeron and procedures best suited for you/wife.
For myself, it was the best thing I ever did for me. Probably saved my life from other medical issues I know longer have.
Best of luck ...

I would check their credentials, and find out how many GPs they have done before. Find out what sort of follow up care they give, and make sure they have top notch insurance. It might be best to do some searching on contraindications for it, also, as it might not be in your wifes best interests, health wise, to get one.
A GP is more than just a surgery. It is a lifetime committment to dieting, and exercising, and following very strict rules in both of these fields. It might be best to exhaust your other options first, before getting major surgery.
There is also a problem with loose skin. Unless you have the money for liposuction and tummy tucks, as well as other forms of cosmetic surgeries, which are generally NOT covered by insurance, then your wife might still be unhappy later on.
What she CAN do, is to start walking DAILY. I dont know her capabilities, but the goal should be 30 minutes of walking daily. If she starts at like 10 minutes daily for the first week, and adds 5 minutes every week afterwards, then in just over a month, she will be used to it, and have already reached her goal. Also make sure she puts walking before anything else, kindof like brushing teeth or showering. No excuses allowed. Bring the family. Its good for them, too!
It might help to offer a reward program for this, also, like buying her a nice outfit when she goes down a dress size, and taking her out to dinner, so she can eat whatever she wants!
Also, when it comes to dieting- DONT. Only make minor changes that are easy to handle, like switching from skinned, fried chicken, to skinless baked chicken the first week.
Dieting is just training for gaining weight back, so dont do it.
Making lifelong changes are essential for lifelong health and wellbeing. Baby steps are essential to be able to pull this off.
Also, in the first week, have her (if she likes) drink non carbonated, sugar free, caffiene free clear fluids. She can still have sodas, and sugary stuff, just have her do a baby step and commit to drinking an extra glass of water a day. The next week, up that one glass to two. In 8 weeks, she will be drinking 8 glasses of water a day, the reccommended amount. Milk is good too. Another baby step you could take, on week one or two, would be to switching to a lowfat milk, and drinking a glass a day, also.
I think surgery is a last resort choice, and if youve tried everything else, then I guess you gotta do what you gotta do, but I hope you will both try this advice. Ya never know. It just might work!!!
Oh yeah, one more thing- colonic irrigation from a licensed massage therapist who is certified in colonics, can actually help you lose weight, too. It generally costs about 100 bucks, and you should NOT (shhhh) tell them youre there to lose weight. Be honest about everything else, health history wise. It is a little uncomfortable, but most people lose between 3 and 5 pounds after the first treatment. Its not a fat loss, but it takes the built up feces and other junk in your intestines, and loosens it up, allowing for it to be emptied. It also helps the intestine to be able to absorb essential vitamins and minerals, which can really help a person lose weight. If diet pills didnt help you before, I would highly reccommend a few colonics sessions and then try the pills again. The pills and vitamins are generally not absorbed by most adults, because of all the intestinal build up, which acts as a shield, and that is not a good thing for healthy living. Go back and get another colonic annually, too. Its no worse than a pap smear, even though its a little uncomfortable.
Good luck to you both, no matter what you decide! =)

Gastric Bypass Surgery/gastrectomy/lapband (all types of weight loss /bariatric surgery) is very cheap and safe in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.
I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as obesity surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your obesity surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.
My cousin got her gastric bypass surgery in India through the forerunners healthcare .SHe is more than very happy with the results. She has lost 65lbs in 5 months. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.hope this helps

Cold showers: They not only burn 500 extra calories daily, studies from The New England Journal of Medicine cite which the icy water also activates ‘brown fat’ – the favorable type of body fat which creates body heat, increases metabolic process and burns off naughty bright fat.

Time your ingesting and exercise appropriately. Never eat prior to deciding to work out, and wait 30 to 60 minutes after training to be sure you catch your metabolism in its highest.
