I voted for this idiot who has taken us to War, not understanding that regions beliefs and history. We will see many deaths and attrocities that the circumstances and pressures the boys are placed under will commit. The sad part of this is that the individual soldier will suffer the consequences when the top people will profess something stupid about a few rotten apples, when in fact anyone placed in the conditions these kids are placed could commit horrible things they would never have done under any other circumstances. Telling the kids that "men are dying and we need them to confess" is just the type of pressure that can cause otherwise nice young men & women to commit horrible acts against others. How can it be stopped?

As a Vietnam Vet I am not degrading our guys over there at all. But I became acutely aware of studies done on the behavior of prisoners and guards that was done 20 yrs ago, proving that under pressure we can all do things that we other wise would never dream of doing. I salute our men fighting there, but do not feel our leaders are correct in picking Iraq as a foothold for democracy. It is more of the same quagmire that we got ourselves in in Nam. The Republicans were wrong in using 9/11 to start their own little War, the Dems had no spine to say no with the fear we all share in and always remember what was said after WWII, "beware of the military complex". That means the builders of the military weapons and equipment. They are the only benefiters of this war on terror.

There are a lot of armchair warriors over here who blather on at the mouth with this strong opinion or that strong opinion, including hatefulness spewed toward those with whom they don't agree. But unless we have walked in the boots of those who have been there and fought, we will never know what kind of pressures these men and women have had to face. Bad things are going to happen and bad behavior will most certainly happen in reaction, but you must realize that this is a normal reaction to an abnormal (highly!) situation. What seems awfully fishy to me is this: no soldier does ANYTHING without permission from a superior; they don't sneeze, they don't fart, they don't take a s*** without permission. These poor soldiers who stepped over the boundaries are being strung up and no one's superior is taking credit for or being held accountable for what happened, including all the way up to D. Rumsfeld and G. W. Bush. The really sad part is that the traumatized soldier returns and gets very little support from the g-ment afterwards. Yes there are studies that show that certain stimuli will bring out the very worst in human behavior. The Iraq war, or any war for that matter, is just that kind of stimuli. What a stupid, tragic mess we are in!

You no what... I am not ashamed. When I voted I voted for the man who I felt would lead our country best. Of course Bush wasn't the perfect man for the job, but its my job as a citizen to choose who I feel best and to see past the picture perfect person and see their faults. Now if you want something to go as you want then why don't you run for president? Because everyone has a different idea on what should be done. What do you think we should do? Do you think we should pull out of Iraq? No way! We can't do that... not yet at least. That would be a betrayal to the Iraqi people. I am not disappointed because I know MY way won't always happen. If it did then the world would be perfect and we'd always eat really good food and we'd always be with the people we love. But no... it isn't my way or the highway... its my way or compromise with society. I hope you can understand that you don't always get exactly what you want as well as the fact that it is your fault and anyone who voted for Bush, myself inclueded, that you should be blaiming, if blaiming is even needed, which I don't think it is.

If you look at the history of Christianity, W is doing nothing wrong. War and torture have been a part of Christian heritage for a long time. The Crusades, the Inquisition, exploitation of the New World, colonization of foriegn lands, enslaving less developed societies, commitiing genocide on the Native Americans. If anything, voting for a devout Christian is like asking for a secretive regime that kidnaps and tortures people and dreams of creating a Theocracy.

Wild ranting do not make it so. Our Military are not boys, they are grown Men who decided that they wanted to defend the freedom of our country. As a mother of an Officer and US Ranger, I am proud of our Military and will make a decision on the supposed bad apples after a trial has been held & they have been convicted. Our country was founded on freedom, presumed innocence , our love of our Military that gave us freedom. That is why we celebrate on the 4th of July. I am ashamed of those who show such ingratitude during this season of celebration. There will always be some bullies in every area of life, in the Military it is more blantant but it does not make them all wrong. Shame on you!

Ha ha. I didn't vote for George Bush. I voted for Gore and I voted for Kerry. His term will be up soon and you can do better at the next elcetion. Just make sure you do your research on the candidates- not just what they say but also what they have done in past offices. Their conduct in the past is important because it shows what they will most likey do if they are elected. For instance, if Jennifer Granholm ran for president, I am sure she would work to keep abortion legal if whe was elected and she would make sure we had all kinds of provisions for programs for the disabled and unions because she is really into that right now as governor.

Nope- because I didn't vote for him!!!!!
It can be stopped with education- and pressuring the media to tell the true story. The last place to get the true story is the popular media in this country. Even just watching the BBC World News gives you a fairer perspective.

only on the immigration issue, the war was voted on by all of congress and approved, it was not just Bush doing it.
And after 911 we needed to take the war to the terrorist areas
