why do kids, adults, and most teenagers crack under peer pressure to do things that they know are not right?

on average american child starts smoking at age 11. why do kids find yellow teeth bad breath and bad coughs cool?

ppl crack under peer pressure to try to fit in... in some cases others can make their life a misery by taunting them until they relent. However if you have friends like that you're better off to find better ones, because they aren't really your friends. I never took up smoking.. it digusts me. I got a hard time from ppl who would get mad with me if I didn't accept the ciggarette they offered, until in the end I was advised to take it gratefully, tell them you'll save it for later and chuck it out when they'd gone. I put it into practice and found it worked well. Someone else I knew accepted them after several times declining, then ripped them up and stopped getting offers soon after! :)) It can be difficult to resist peer pressure sometimes, but let your morals and common sense get the final say. Some things you can get into can wreck or even end your life... it's not worth it!

I like the way you imply that all kids and adults crack, but only "most" teens. I suppose you are a teen;) I think it's the need to be accepted. It's hard to be different even when you choose to be. Most want to be like everyone else and they'll do whatever they have to to do it. Then they'll be part of a group and feel accepted and even special within the group.

Im not one of them. I dont care what other people do. I only do what I think is good. Small things are alright like copying in a test and passing answers etc but things like smoking are those I wouldnt do because I cant even tolerate the smell. I hate it. Gives me a headache.

I think in the beginning the ones that fall into this category are basically insecure. They have a need to fit in to a group of some kind to give themselves value. Most grow out of it as they mature.

I don't find it kewl at all. I never did. Sumtimes, like back in the day it was anormal thing 2 smoke, and now sum kidz c their role modles (like actors and singers) doing it and think it kewl. But D.A.R.E. is definatly helping getting through 2 kidz!
