The breathing tube is called a nasal cannula. She is breathing about 1-6 liters per minute of oxygen. Generally people who are on oxygen have one of two conditions. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder or Congestive heart Failure. It is possible, considering you stated she couldn't see, that she also has diabetes. Any of these conditions can be fatal.

I gather that she is sick if she has a breathing tube on her nose. That could be caused by a number of different conditions of the lung and heart. Some of them are more serious than others.

Whether it is IN or ON her nose are two very different things. If it is a little pipe with two prongs that go into her nostrils, it is a nasal cannula. Provides 2 to 6 LPM oxygen, commonly for people with COPD or emphysema. Can live very comfortably for a very long time with this. If it is IN her nose.... could be an NG or ET tube. NG goes into you belly, provides nutrients and stuff. ET goes in your lungs and breathes for you, because for whatever reason, you can't do it yourself.

I can't remember the "official" name of the tubes-- but its only giving her more oxygen to help her breath easier.
She won't die from the breathing tube and in fact, its an effort to give her body a better chance at healing so she doesn'thave to work so hard for each breath.
Visit her as much as you can, and let her know how much you care about her and how worried you are. She will love to hear that from you and it will help you feel better too.

She won't die from a tube in her nose. That is just fresh oxygen that is helping her to breathe better. The question is, why is she wearing it? Does she have heart disease, lung disease? You need to read up on why she's using oxygen so you can better understand her illness.

they are called nasal cannulae- and no, she won't die from it. they're supposed to give her supplemental oxygen. the higher concentratino of oxygen she breathes in, the higher concentration diffuses from her lungs and into her bloodstream. people with severe lung dysfunction (such as emphysema) may require extra oxygen in order to function normally.
