See if your community has any places where German immigrants or travellers hang out. (Perhaps check on craigslist.com) Maybe you could trade language lessons- you learn German, they learn English. Everyone wins! Also, you could check into auditing a class at a university or community college. I know a little German. Practice this:

Guten Morgen! Ich heisse (your name). Ich liebe Deutschland!

this translates to: Good Morning! My name is ____. I love Germany!!

Ask everyone you know if they speak German or know someone who does. Once you find one, get them to teach you.
You can also borrow CDs or books for learning foreign languages at your public library.
Check around on the internet also. Maybe there's a site for that.

Try finding someone in your area....a senior ....grandmotherly type that is from Germany that you could maybe go and help out once a week. You could trade...she could talk to you in German and help you with speaking it while you did some light housecleaning or vacuuming for her!

You have to make up your mind. Spend a very long time studying or pay money for schooling and immerse yourself.

I don't know when you posted this, but "right away" sounds like it's too late.
