Is it right for parents to ruin a child's self-confidence while he/she is growing up?

Question

The obvious answer is "no", but then why do they do it?

They do it because either
A) It's a mental thing
or
B) That's how they were grown up.

It's self concious. My teacher once told me that just by calling a child stupid (rather than calling what they did stupid) can lead to a more negative way of looking at ones self. Some people don't realize that what they say hurts that down. Some might just find it easier and not take the time to think about it. Some don't care at all.

I believe the problem arises when the parent/parents are lacking something themselves- self-confidence. In order for them to make themselves "whole" they focus that energy outward to their children. Those children are helpless and cannot fight back thus making them the perfect targets.

What a parent should look into doing is finding out why they act the way the act towards their children. Maybe that is how they have been raised and no other way of doing it, which often seems to be the case. And since this is all they know it makes it okay for them, the parent, to act in this manner. And since it is okay for them to act in this manner the parent is not even aware of the fact that they are doing something wrong. Then when that child grows up and has children the cycle is continued unless that child, who is now the parent, makes an active decision to change the behavior.

like you said no but the thing is sometimes they didnt know there doing it or maybe its the way they were raised they just dont know any better thier is a book call smart kids dumb choices its for kids and parent it has things like a lady was having problems with he son drinking and driving and while at a therapy seccion the son ask the mother have you ever drank and drive she lied and said no you see she was and acholic ,so the doctor ask the boy to leave then ask the mother why you lie she said i didn't want him to know he said it was wrong to act perfect when she wasn't he said she should have said yes then they could talk about whats right and whats wrong but you cant tell your whats right and wrong if you lie to yourself you see her son knew she was an acholic and he knew she was lying

some parents dont realize what they are doing is hurting their child. and others, sad to say just dont care. :( like today while i was at the store, this couple was in their car screaming at each other, the windows were up and i could hear them loud and clear, and there was a little boy in the back seat, he was probably 5 or 6 yrs old. i thought it was the saddest thing.

The only parents that ruin their kids confidence are the ones that hate their kids. My mom did that to me, but most parents I know are guilty of the inverse: Making their kid too confident, and not reprimanding them when needed. You don't have to destroy the kid's confidence, but you have to let them know that they've done wrong, and that they aren't always right.

my bro does that to his kids, which is weird because he wasn't raised that way. I think its an issue with control and power and ego. They feel bad about themselves and have to beat someone up mentally to feel better about themselves. I don't think there are any verbal abuse laws!

There is no book to parenting........some parents dont' realize they're doing it. Of course some are just rotten people......and unfortunately there is no liscence required to become a parent.

because they are trying to keep their kid safe. They don't understand that the kid world is much different from when they lived in it, and different also from their world
