addiction today and in every other time ,has been a weakness more than a delibirate sin .addiction is when you incurr in engaging in what you can control.Humans always want to try what is prohibited by law.By mans law what is prohibeted is usually punished, because it is bad for humanity and goes against the principles of life most importantly against the principles of GOD ..Addiction is a sin the momemt it becomes addiction ,because there after you can not control what controls you.Anything that harms the temple of God there after becomes a sin because the temple of God is a sacred creation by the allmighty. When we do all that is not in our control we are just as responsible as if we had control, that's where intent comes in .if we participate in an addiction knowingly after we know that we need the help and we don't look for it,than there is a fine line that crosses us over to the inteded sin.sin is a sin regardless of size.little or big sin is sin. What really counts is the intent in the action committed .That, in my opinion makes the difference it is what is in our hearts what makes the difference .If you have and addiction ,you will be forgiven by god if you show him what is in your heart. His love overcomes any sin ,the only sin that is not forgiven is the blasphemy against the holy spirit.Addictions are broken when we give the control of our will to God.If we give up our will and except gods will ,than his will be done .we live in a world filled with addictions.Addictions happen when we dare go against the principles of Gods law, that's why they cause so much harm.God will forgive us if we ask him to and admit our sin to him in confession to him .Men will punish sin with jail and many other injustices that take place in the name of God but the only just one is God .Because we are his children he will forgive us he is just and what he forgives he will not use against you .What he forgives will be forgotten forever. When we suffer from addictions the best thing to do is to recognize our weakness and ask him for his fortitude and seek help. While seeking help you show your intention of repentance and your desire to change .It is here where sin is most noticible when you have the opportunity to fix what is wrong and you do not the question should be how can i break and addiction that i know the addiction that is killing you,or that person that you love dearly. What ever the circumstance repentance is the solution the moment you repent you show God the respect you have for him and he then will come to your rescue.I hope that this writing has been of help to that person who is looking for the help. The first step in breaking and addiction is to admit that you are helpless against it .When we recognize that we are powerless against and addiction you render yourself powerless and you give him the permission to take over the problem and heal it.Addictions will destroy everything that your are.Addiction will contaminate yor existence and the existence of others.Remember ,that we specialize in damaging ,God specializes in repairing. He will repair in one minute what you damaged for years.Addictions are a way in which the enemy tries to harm what belongs to God .What the enemy never seems to understand is that what belongs to God ,he will protect.some times God will allolw us to experiment addictions so that later he can come and leave the evidence of his holy power in healing in our lives.so take it from me one who has experienced addiction for thirty years of my life and in one determined moment God came to my rescue and liberated me from all tha that i could not control. He brought order and discipline in to my life. What he be touches will never again be the same .His is willing to leave the evidence of his power in your life if you're willinbg to receive it.GOD Bless You.

It is a catchword for "weakminded".
For instance the term alcoholism is an excuse for people to not be responsible for their actions.
Addictions are now called diseases. This is patently deceptive.
How is it a disease when the person must: A.decide to procure the object of his "disease"? B. follow through by acquiring his "diseases" material form? C. ingesting the disease?
The reality? "Addictions", are born of people with improproper or selfish motives. People drink to feel it, not to enjoy life. Result?
if the goal is to feel it, increasing amounts of alcohol are required untill the person is in a habit which is difficult to break.Solution?
stop drinking until it becomes possible to drink without expectations of "relaxation,Ideserve a drink, it was a hard day".
As for illegal drugs? they are illegal, that should be the reason not to use them. But, if you like jail, by all means, indulge.
Sin, is a word defining not meeting gods' standards. Although drunkenness and other addictions fit this parameter, they are only some of the things that are not meeting gods' standards.
many others can be determined by studying his word

No, addiction is being addicted to something, which means that it isn't a conscious decision, and therefore cannot be a sin. A sin is a willful decision to do something immoral.

no. if you "say the Lord's name in vein" that is a "sin", but it's not an addiction is it? Not usually. Lots of "sins" have nothing to do with addiction.

No.
Sin means 'missing the mark'.
That is:
We were created to live a certain way.
Adam disobeyed.
He rejected the way God purposed for us.
By so doing, he introduced sin into the world.
Romans 5:12
His off-spring can't live the way we were intended, thus we miss the mark.
Addiction is a sickness that will be cured when God completes his project of leading us back to the way things were originally intended.

Addiction is another word for lusting. Lust is just not about sexually desires but lusting is wanting something for fleshly pleasure. Such as drugs, sex, eating to the excess, etc. Its an addiction to anything is a sin.
