it won't ruin it, but yes it will do SOME irreversible damage to that hair (but obviously not the new hair that grows in afterwards). it will not be that bad though if you invest in some PROFESSIONAL SALON shampoo and conditioner for color-treated hair, and a deep conditioning treatment that you can do about once a week. i have been coloring my hair on a regular basis for years now and using good products are the best thing you can do to preserve shine and luster to dyed hair...but also realize that your hair will NOT be the same after you do it.

No. Especially not if it's done by a professional.

Highlighting your hair can *damage* it, but I wouldn't considered it ruined. . .

Don't do it yourself. Have a professional do it. Keep it conditioned--highlighting creme is very damaging. If your hair is short--it won't hurt it. If it's long--keep it trimmed EVERY month and use a color-safe shampoo and conditioner. Purple tinted shampoos and conditioners keep them from turning brassy.

If you do it right (w/ a good product or at the beauty parlor), it won't damage your hair. But, some cheap products such as Sun in can damage your hair (e.g. dries it out, makes it feel weird, etc.). But, it will only damage the hair you put it on...once it grows out, your new hair will be fine.

it won't per say, ruin it, but if yoiu highlight it once, you have to keep doing it, or else you will get roots and they look ugly on hair, so unless you want to keep re-touching it, don't get highlights.

NO! Your hair renews it self as it grows and you trim it...it is possible to ruin what is already there though...
