I don't know. Why don't you ask some pregnant lesbians? How can they be pregnant if they are only attracted to women? Sure don't give me the "they're 'fake lesbians" crap. Maybe if there weren't so many 'fakes' or so many people who claim they are but obviously aren't you would have a much better argument. Even if they do not have a choice who they like they still have a choice of whether or not they act on their impulses. Alcoholics have an impulse to drink that they can't help, so should it be ok that they are drunk all the time? I'm not saying all alcoholics are always drunk. But those who aren't are obviously resisting their impulses and have learned to live like normal people. There is a choice with everything.

If you'd ever had a loved one or family member make that choice on you, you'd understand. I've seen men and women walk away from their families because they'd rather be gay than parents. I've both seen and felt the devastation of a lover doing the same. It feels like betrayal. There is no impulse acted on that isn't a choice, no matter how small or large. Western civilization in particular has become remarkably adept at not requiring the individual to take responsibility for their own actions. We can blame our parents, our environment, our genetics, random chance, whatever; or we can start being proud of the decisions we make. That choice is ours too.

A person's sexual orientation is no more a choice than gender. We do make choices as to who we see and what we do in our relationships, but we don't choose who we'll be attracted to.

If it was as simple as one poster made it out to be, just randomly choosing girl or boy, the rate of homosexuality would be about 50%. It isn't. It's roughly 7-10%, which is the same across the board throughout the animal kingdom. It is a perfectly natural occurence.

As for the "pregnant lesbians" issue, that happens in a number of ways. 1.) The lesbian woman has repressed her sexuality and attempted to live in a hetero relationship due to social pressues and prejudices. 2.) The lesbian woman really wants a child and has been artificially inseminated. 3.) The lesbian is actually a bisexual.

Another person mentioned that gay men have been rejected by women, and that's why they go gay. That notion is simply incorrect. I have known gay men who say they knew they were gay as children, and many who say they knew as soon as they hit puberty. There were no relationships that went sour, they had families like anyone else's, and right from the start they were simply gay.

Part of the reason for the propagation of the myth that homosexuality is a choice is derived, of course, from religion... and in the U.S., often Christianity in particular. That's another can of worms... it's an ancient religion from a time of myth, a time when many other texts from the era have long since been dismissed, but a few have been culled and called the word of God, despite massive inconsistencies, contradictions, and stories that would sound absurd if they hadn't been taught to someone throughout a lifetime. The world created in a little factory in a few days? Life suddenly appearing in an instant? A serpent offering a fruit of knowledge? Lot's wife turned to salt? Samson's hair made him strong? Do Christians realize how these things sound? The ancient Norse myths show that people thought earthquakes were caused by Loki shaking in his chains bound to the earth when a viper dripped venom in his face. We don't believe that anymore. Why believe the stories of the Bible? Really, is there reason to, beyond being told it was true?

And yet, it is from the questionable Bible that people find a means of hating others. Even though men in the Bible who are now revered keep slaves, marry women who are barely pubescent, and give their virgin daughters away, it is gay people who are hated. The rest is explained away. What happened to "love thy neighbor"?

If you've known enough people who are gay... and I mean known them as in, spent nights up drinking and laughing, gone out on the town, and had long discussions about anything and everything... not "know" as in, "I have a gay friend, I can't remember his name though." Anyway... if you've really known people who are gay, you quickly come to realize that these are not people choosing to be gay. It's who they are. And every gay person has the same trials and tribulations as anyone else... and furthermore, why would someone choose to live gay knowing the prejudices and sometimes very real dangers they'd have to face? It doesn't make sense as a "choice".

Being gay is as natural as breathing.

I know a few gay women and there are some that say they've know it for a long time, it just felt natural to them. I also know some that used to like men and after being screwed over a few times have since 'chosen' to be with a woman instead.
To say that it's purely a choice is just as narrow-minded as saying it's purely genetic.
So the answer to this question isn't that it is a choice or it isn't a choice, it depends completely on the person's own situation.

God made man and said, "It is NOT good for man to be alone, I shall make him a help meet".....woman.....and when He saw what He had made, He said it was "VERY GOOD"

God did NOT make another man for Adam NOR did He place a man along side the woman so Adam could "choose". He made woman. Period.

That is why He said being a homosexual is"turning away from the natural use of a woman to each other, so He gave them over to their REPROBATE minds."

God would not and has never created anything then call it sin! If He had created people this way then He would have "allowed" it.

If you truly want an answer try contacting Exodus Ministries, they help "gay" people who want to leave the "lifestyle" and live straight. Perhaps since they deal with this on a daily basis they would be happy to answer any of your questions....

Dear bettierage,

Homosexuality is a sin, not a choice. Those who practice this sin, just like lying, stealing, fornication, and hating their neighbor is rebellion aginst the Lord Jesus Christ (God). The penalty for disobeying the law of the Lord is eternal damnation in hell. But how great is the mercy and longsuffering of the Lord!! God in His gracious mercy has chosen to save some of these rebels and make them His children. This is a miraculous act in itself! All of mankind is spiritually dead-dead in sins and trespasses. We are all like stinking dead corpses. We cannot hear God's commands, let alone obey them. The Lord Jesus Christ, in order to take a person to heaven had to choose to save them.. God is no respector of persons--it does not matter if you are rich or poor, black or white, tall or short, a child or old, etc. We all stand on level ground before God. Then the Lord had to pay their sin debt by undergoing the wrath of God (damnation) for that person. The penalty for sin is to go to hell for all eternity. However the Lord Jesus had to condense this penalty into the space of time between the Garden of Gethsemanae and the cross. We cannot even imagine the intensity of the suffering He endured in the hours of the atonement!! Then the Lord had to give that person a new resurrected soul. The point being God does all the work in salvation!! We do absolutely nothing! That is why we give Him all the glory and thanks. If you are not saved I would recommend reading the Bible and asking the Lord to have mercy on you. This does not mean that God will save you but He will know of your desire and God is so merciful!!

1 Corinthians 11:8,9,11
8) For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man
9) Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.
11) Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.
12) For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God

Now where in these scriptures do you find that man is made for the man or man made by man or man was created for the man.
Find it in your bible.
Homosexuality is a choice; you are not born that way. The belief of the homosexuality is of the Devil. That's why it say in verse 11, in the Lord, because if you are in the Lord; then you would know that your belief in homosexuality is foolish and God did NOT create you that way. I pray for you. Amen

it is a choice as hetrosexuality is a choice. If i felt like being with another man/women (if i was female) then who has the right to tell me i cant? its not the goverments its not my mother father uncle cousin or the dude down the street. Its my choice if i was to be gay. people need to stop bashing gays. they have rights also. they are human beings just like you me and the dude down the street. No i am not gay. But i do have a lot of gay friends that i met thru my wife when we got married. they do there thing and i do mine they dont flirt with me and i dont flirt with them. how would you like to be told you cant be hetrosexual!? would it bother you? why not just stop asking and let them live there lifes the way they want to. and i am sure they will leave you alone. I hope that they let them get married soon to upset some of you ignorant people who think that its not right. If they are capable of living together for years and take care of each other then they should have the right to have the benifits. If you are not old enough or have the maturity to handle this then its to bad for you!

Homosexuality cannot be proven through DNA being passed down. You are here today because of man-woman sex. So, how can homosexual genes be passed down from heterosexual parents?
Second, if homosexual genes were the reason, this would be proven in ALL of the homosexual people. This has not been proven.
God created man and woman to procreate. Same sex partners cannot do this.
Homosexuality is a choice. I have met those who were homosexual who, when they met Jesus, were able to overcome this choice and are now happily married. Some have children and preach to those who are in this.

Everyone has the choice to live in sin. A Christian could argue that it's not a choice to be homosexual, but because we are all born in sin then homosexuals were born that way, however, like everyone else they have a choice to live in sin or not. It's that simple, God frowns on it, therefore it's wrong. Doesn't mean that all other sins are minimal compare to homosexuality like some would have you believe. They are all the same in God's eyes.
