It means they are negotiating the settlement. Your attorney has presented your demand and the insurance company is reviewing the claim and has either made an offer for settlement less than the demand or is still requesting more information from the attorney, medical providers of doing their own independent medical review of your medical records.

You will need to be patient and have your attorney do what you hired him to do, present your claim, negotiate it, and settle it.
A claimant (person as yourself putting in the claim) that is impatient and wants to settle quickly often gets a lower settlemnt amount since they do not allow the claims process to run it's course.

I hope your Medpay of PIP has paid the medical bills as this should be the only thing pressing you to settle quickly.

Good Luck from a senior liability claims rep

When your attorney tells you that you are now in settlement, they are telling you that both sides are in negotiating the dollar amount of the award. This can be a lengthy process so you have to be patient. Your attorney will give an offer and they will counter. This can be repeated over and over. Eventually they will agree on an amount. If they don't agree they will have to have a judge or a mediator decide on the amount.
