Our close friend is giving a party while we're on vacation. We really wish we could be there and would like to contribute a bottle of wine and an appetizer. Any suggestions what we could give him in the frozen form, to use later? (This is a very casual party---think ale, cheese, and Irish breads) Thanks for any ideas!

you can freeze any breads ahead of time. you can make a cheese marinade a week ahead of time and buy the cheese the night before. you could get them a gift certificate for a nice farmers market for good quality cheeses and wines. un-frosted cakes can be frozen. meatballs can be frozen ahead of time. an un-baked pasta caserol can be frozen, put it together like a reg. caserol with uncooked noodles and freeze, tell him to take it out of the freezer a day ahead and cook it 15-25 minutes longer.
