I'm with you!! EVERYTHING should be in ENGLISH only!!!!!!!!!! If they can't SPEAK our language, then they need to KEEP THE HELL out of the country!! There was one guy in the news, that put up a sign in his business that said "English only". All the ILLEGALS and their supporters are having a FIT about this!!!
I thought every business owner had a RIGHT to REFUSE service to anyone!!! Why should he have to CATER to these illegals??!!!

What about tourists? what about people just going there for shopping and spending money? Spanish happens to be the second most widely spoken language in the world (as of 1999).

Unless you want to have an open and global economy you´re right not wanting to have things translated.

I don't really know how far north are we talking about these translation, because I haven't been anywhere in the USA beyond the border zone, except for Boston (a few weeks ago, on vacations) and I didn't see anything in spanish except for one advertisement about a health campaign (the same advertisement was translated to portuguese, french, chinese and japanese).

About the "if you want to go to a country, you have to speak their language" part... I wonder why, this being the case, american companies demand for mexican workers to "be proficient in english speaking and writing"...

Just to close my comment... if you come to any town in México with a reasonable flow of american people, you'll find a lot of places with signs reading "english spoken". Want names? Nogales, Tijuana, Matamoros, Acapulco, Mazatlán, Cancún, Cozumel, Puerto Escondido, Vallarta... maybe it's not the best conversational english, but I'd bet you can deal with it... after all, it would be more of a courtesy than an obligation.

I agree with you, if you go into mexico, there are no signs in English, there is nothing in our langauge, if a cop pulls you over, they will beat you if you dont speak the langage,
so you make a very good point and i think that all this is stupid, that is why Bush(the ididot no1 likes) put police and army and military forces at the border to stop all the illegals from ever getting in and if they are 0-14 they get put back over the border in juvy if they are over 14 they get killed, so if i was an illegel immigrant or i wanted to cross the border, i wouldnt, even though i know the problems they are having there right now, they need to stay on their side, because we are not going to cater to them anymore we have done it for years and i think it needs to stop!
and it is because the illegals are to freaking lazy! to learn the langauge, when go there, we learn the langauge, or we get sent to jail

It's because people are too lazy to learn the language. So what if English isn't the "official" language. It is the language that has been traditionally spoken here since the country began.n but the illegals would rather make excuses and break our laws instead of doing the right and responsible thing.

ENGLISH ONLY IN AMERICA

Well, for one america's long been a multi-lingual country, but our OFFICIAL language, the language that business is done in, is ENGLISH. I don't mind a translation being made to help facilitate, but translations are a substitute for what people should be doing, namely learning our language. There's some settings where the multi-lingual thing is appropriate, there's others where it's not appropriate.

I think one thing people need to do is revise what they think 'the government' is, and who pays for all this, at the end of the day.
And furthermore, there's no reason why countries like MEXICO
can't provide for themselves. Provide social services to their own people, have their own socialist paradise or whatever, but still focus on keeping it out of america etc...if people wanna come for business or something, that's one thing, but the way this whole thing is going sounds more like 'usurpation of government', or at the very least the things that we used to be able to take for granted, like our country not burning money like there's no tomorrow on providing services that EXLUSIVELY cater to foreigners. The american slogan has long been 'do for yourself, or don't complain about not having it', or words to that general effect. With the 'newcomers' comes the 'gimme' component.
Well they can go 'gimme' themselves back home where they came from, and where there's less bleeding hearts in government...do YOU want to sign your paycheck over to a haitian family in need? Why not just give em your car, your house, your job? I mean, since we're all in a giving mood, we LOVE those religious organizations, their positive impact sure has been felt in our own communities, hell if they team up with the government, they can give like there's no tomorrow and just give away the whole damn store! LOL

Didya read about the senate thing, they were basically going to fine the illegals, charge em $2,500 in fines and let them move in as legal citizens. Nice. Your birth certificate now sells on eBay for 2 grand. Way to go, Senate! ROTF Idiots.

When I was in California I saw a lot of different languages on state etc. forms, not just Spanish. Many immigrant people can speak english but it is easier for them to understand some things in their native language just because they are able to speak english they still think in their native language.

They have translations because it makes it easier for those people to get around and do things. It makes it less confusing to them if they only know so little ENglish
