Pick your friends more wisely, and don't let yourself get into situations where you get used. "No" is the smallest and most powerful word. Use it.

It does seem to work that way, doesn't it? I don't know, maybe we shouldn't expect assistance from anyone when we need it, then we all would appreciate it when someone does step up to help. Fortunately, not all people take others for granted. There are true friends out there, sometimes we just have to look a little harder....:)

Yup. Lot's of people are versy selfish. They'll just keep taking as long as you're giving.
But our success as a community of people depends in some part on our ability and willingness to help one another. Like anything, this can be exploited.
Choose by your standards who you feel is exploiting you. Then let them know. I'd be surprised if any of them are surprised. We all know we have to give to get.

bcuz they;re lazy. they figure if you're willing to do these things for them now, why not let you keep doing them in the future? you fixed their wallpaper? great, you can do it again next time there;s something wrong with it. you loaned them $20 for gas. they'll come back to you again next time they need a fill up. seems apparent they're not really friends but are just taking advantage of you and your generosity. lose them and find new ones. otherwise they'll keep doing this forever without end. and if YOU complain they're not helping you out when you need them, they'll question your "friendship" and what it means to them. i had a roommate for 10 years who was supposedly a friend. everytime we moved, he was coveniently absent during moving day. and when I complained why he wasn't there, he said he had better things to do. don't speak to him anymore. lose them, or be their bi*tch for ever.

Sometimes people don't realize that they take their loved ones for granted. At least know that you are a good person and you did help them but you can also put your foot down if you don't want to be taken advantage of.

there are 2 types of friends... friends that help you move and friends that help you move a body. i try to have only 3 friends, true friends the body movers. i know a lot of people and i try to help anyone who asks. but i expect nothing in return from them. i trust to karma to help find someone to lend a hand in my time of need.

I hear you. I don't know why people do that except that they're just spoiled brats who lack consideration. Those people won't even get it if you confront them about it. Just say "no" next time.

Oddly, people who are so into themselves don't see very clearly while they're in there. Try a little introspection.
