What if there was an island that has yet to be discovered that was inhabited by a tribe that has no knowledge or concept of the christian god. Would these people go to heaven or would they be sent to hell when they die, even though they had no chance of ever knowing the concept of the christian god?

No, because heaven doesn't exist.

They can not be sent to hell by a loving God just for not knowing. Same as whoever thought that God may send a child to hell for not knowing the Lord is just plain ridiculous. I am guessing since you asked this question the way you did that you have a relationship with God, so you know that there is no way that that same loving and almighty God would send someone to hell because the rest of the world never found them. If anything maybe they would be on a straighter shot since they lived life instead of fighting wars over who's God is better. God is love, I can not imagine a world or an eternity where God did not love everyone so in my humble opinion there is no way that my God would send anyone to hell for such an insignificant reason as no one told them. They will still know God, they just will not have a name to throw around like we do.

When these people die their souls/spirits would neither go to Heaven and Hell. The reason being that Heaven and Hell are Christian concepts and these people's culture has yet to be demolished, absorbed, modified, or impacted by the Christian faith. As such these people's souls would pass into their idea of the afterlife.

I dunno if they would go to heaven, I don't even know if heaven exists, but a just and fair God WOULD NOT send them to hell. I believe more that what you do during your life will earn your place in the afterlife. If you are a good person, you will go to heaven, or some other form of complete attunement with the universe, if you have done awful things to your fellow human beings and yourself, you will be forced to atone in the afterlife.

If you believe in heaven and hell in this light, it's a lot easier to justify situations like this, where simply because of where a person is born he would be condemned to hell according to some beliefs. If that is really how it works, that God is a God I want no part of.

When God speaks of accountability, he means age, if you are too young to understand then you go to heaven, but for adults God always provides ways for us to know him, we just have to take the opportunity, and Besides If a new island was discovered like you say, there would be missionaries there inside of 6 months. They would know before long about God

I am Catholic.

OK...for those of you who are still with me despite my first sentence, here is the Catholic Church's teaching on the question at hand.

Our God is a God of mercy. He does not expect the impossible. If a society has never been exposed to Christianity, how can the Lord condemn them? He wouldn't

NOW...if they HAD been evangelized, and rejected the truth...that is a WHOLE 'nother ball of wax.

So? in what way could God judge them? Simple. Based upon the natural moral law. You know- the one written on our hearts that says in every culture that murder is wrong, commited relationships(marriages) are the best environment to raise children, we should respect the elderly and infirm....you get the idea.

The natural moral law forms the basis for Christian teaching.

Good question... it gives you something to think about.

There are two answers.

Some would say they would go to heaven because most people would say God is a loving God and would forgive their ignorance.

or

Some would say they would go to hell because they believed in the wrong god, didn't worship properly, lived in sin, etc.

There are to many human excuses.

I think it's about how you live your life. Not wether you worship something. Have you ever seen the movie "Defending Your Life"? I would hope that if their was a heaven, it would be something like that...

Jesus is the God of mercy and grace. Jesus said " I do not judge you but the words that I speak they judge you" . How could Jesus be righteous if he condemned them that know not the truth. The bible says the wrath of God is reserved for the children of disobedients. But the Spirit of God is not limited by an island. I believe the good shepherd would send a call to his sheep. But who can know the thoughts of Jesus unless he shows them to us. In Abraham's time there was no bible was there. In Noah's time there was no bible. But men of God inspired by the HOLY GHOST wrote the word of God down for us. Their experiences with God. With Almighty God. The Creator of all things. He knows your thoughts. And the intent of the heart. If you had a child, would you put him on a island, and never visit him. If you where a Gardner would you plant a tree and when it started to grow would you pull it up and put it in the desert? God's ways are not man's ways. Jesus is the father. Jesus is the son. Jesus is the Holy Ghost.

DID you ever wonder why the Indian's had RESPECT for what they called the GREAT SPIRIT???? No BIBLE in what we call now AMERICA , then!!!!
IF you don't get your SOUL (second mind, Spiritual Super-Computer) RELIGIOUSLY BRAINWASHED, Spiritual thing's are easier to be aware of. People for thousand's of year's, isolated from other People's know Something is going on in the Unseen World around us. I read in the National Geographic Magazine, around the 1960's I think, were these people on Island's who collected Bird Nest's to sell to Japan, the Japaneese made a delicacy soup out of them, Made alot of money selling them too!!!. When these guy's went to climb up the rickety-scaffolding made out of Bamboo lashed together, They would quit speaking certain words like, fall, die, accident, slip,so on and so on. They understood the POWER of WORD's in the Unseen World around us. The Article made no mention of them being SAVED, or the BIBLE. They had learned this all on their own. Interesting!!!!! All GOD ALMIGHTY need's is an Open DOOR(like when a Human Being look's around at thing's and Wonder's where it came from), GOD uses's SECRET's after that!!!!! Believe it or Not!!!(hahaha) I Believe it!!!! Ditto!!!.

No. Heaven is made up to make people feel better about their mortality. There is no reason to believe that there is a heaven except that you desperately want to believe. No wait, that's not a reason either. This lie is spread by fictional works like the bible. That's like asking if people will go to Oz, Corussant, Valhalla or other fictional locations.
