The best advice I can give toward setting goals is to only set attainable ones. If a goal is too far to reach in one step, then set intermediary goals that will lead to what you want.
Once you set an attainable goal, then do what it takes to achieve it.

First you have to decide what you want to do.
What interests you?
Then you have to ask does the thing I want to do require an education. If it does, then you have to get that education. Then once you get the education, you have to get the job you want and work your way up from there.
Generally in goal setting, keep the bar just above what you think you can do, So you will keep yourself striving to atain the goal, not Way above, or you will get discouraged. Also, you cannot set the goal within what you can already do, or you will stop trying. So set a goal just beyond your reach so you keep trying.

# 1 - You must be realistic.
# 2 - Set only goals which you feel you CAN attain, these can always be raised later if too low.
# 3 - Take small steps at a time - don't reach for the stars until you've got to the moon !
# 4 - Never tackle 'brick walls' you come across, head on - try going 'round' them !
# 5 - Remember - "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again".
Once you achieve a goal, set a higher level.
Success comes only to those who dedicate themselves to the task - and never take their eyes off the ultimate goal.

Alright, I'll tackle this one.
First, you think of what you really want to accomplish, and how long it might take to get there.
Then, you write down a series of small goals, or steps along the way, and a time line for reaching each of those small steps.
Congratulate yourself on getting this far and find something else to do for awhile to take your mind off of it.
then, the next day you'll forget where you put the pad of paper, grab a bag of cheetos, and sink back into the couch like the lazy *** you are and will always be.

I don't do well with goal-setting either but I know this: Start small and easy so you succeed a lot and can establish a habit of meeting your goals.

Well, what do you really want? Make a list of long range and realistic short term goals.
Come up with a plan and timeline for achieving them, along with how to make them come true.
Reward yourself, above all else, when you accomplish them!!
