You can go to the court house to see records that are publicly viewable. It's probably cheapest and easiest to use an on line service like the one listed.

Well your question isn't quite clear...Do you want to see if someone has a criminal record? If so and the county they have lived in is on-line then you could do one of those background checks on-line. Only problem being is if they lived somewhere that doesn't keep those records on-line. Or are you ask how to look up a criminal record from one particular event? If that is the case then take the case number or the persons name and approximate date it happened to the municipal or federal court where the trial was at and the clerk will pull it for you. Once a trial is said and done it is all public record. You may also be able to find it on-line if the county keeps their records on-line.

Go to your local courthouse. Yes this involves leaving your computer, getting some fresh air, and talking to your county clerk in person. All criminal records are "public knowledge". That's one more deterrant to committing a crime; EVERYBODY knows about it, and WILL talk about it, and WILL tell stories, and WILL get the facts all messed up.

if you know the persons full name and if possible the ssn. you can go to any state fdle and get a ncic on any active warrants or a person in jail and what for. otherwise, to get more than that you need the ncic access codes to get intel from any law enforcement in the state. if you have friends on the city or other police force, they can run it for you, but you can't get a copy.
